The year 2014 marks the change in the mode of disseminating information about STU from the traditional “Berita STU” to the electronic “e-Berita STU”. One of the reasons is to make sure all STU members get the information online through www.stu.org.my. We had our 22nd Biennial Delegates Conference on 17-19 September 2014 where the 2014-2016 principal office bearers are elected. STU wish to thank the former leaders who had retired from the teaching profession. Our appreciation to our late former President, the late Bro. William Ghani Bina who had done great job for the union. To the new leaders, welcome to serve our members in our own capacity especially to our new Deputy President, Vice- President (Northern Zone), and Assistant Treasurer General.

As STU is affiliated with Education International, we had joined hand together to promote “UNITE FOR QUALITY EDUCATION : BETTER EDUCATION FOR A BETTER WORLD” during our 22nd BDC. All the STU divisions also launched on promoting quality education for all at their respective division. We hope teachers especially the Sarawak Teachers’ Union members serve our children with passion and love.

Many issues were being brought up by STU for the attention of the Ministry of Education related to teachers’ welfare, wardens, poor internet access in Sarawak, revising the allowances for headmasters, principals and senior assistants and “Ketua Bidang”. As the Vice-Chairman of the Majlis Bersama Kebangsaan (MBK, P & P), I have also brought up the issue of the career path of teachers, School Improvement Partner Plus (SISC+), and School Improvement Coach Partner (SISC).

To STU members, I would like to request that all members to update your detail in e-STU so that we can serve you better pertaining to the insurances that you have taken up through STU. Members who are taking insurance for your spouses and children are requested to take subsidiary card with a minimum cost so that in future they can be served by STU. All are requested to contact the office for details. For those members who have not taken any life insurance, Personal Accident Insurance, or Health Card are encouraged to do so.

As STU will be celebrating its 50th Anniversary next year (1965-2015), STU will be planning activities at Headquarters and Division level. All members are requested to join hand to celebrate the anniversary to be held next year. Last but not least, may STU motto “Social Justice and Peace” be our battle cry especially as we celebrate our 50th Anniversary in 2015.
