The international design market is feeling the impact of the global ﬁnancial woes of the last two years, which can be seen from the results of ENR’s Top International survey. ENR’s Top 200 International Design Firms earned $52.45 billion in design revenue in 2009 from projects outside their home countries, a decline of 0.3% from the $52.62 billion they earned in 2008. Total design revenue for the Top 200 fell 4.2% in 2009 to $111.81 billion.

Despite soft markets, some are growing through mergers and acquisitions around the globe. Among ENR’s Top 150 Global Design Firms, there are 32 design firms with a total design revenue of more than $1 billion each in 2009. However, size is no protection against a falling market, as the 16 largest designers on the ENR Top 150 Global list all saw a decline in design revenue between 2008 and 2009.
