Indigenously developed nuclear-capable missile Prithvi-II test fired successfully
India successfully test-fired indigenously developed
nuclear-capable missile Prithvi-II as part of a user
trial by the Army from a test range off the Odisha
coast. The trial of the surface-to-surface missile,
which has a strike range of 350 km, was carried out
from a mobile launcher from Launch Complex-III of
the Integrated Test Range, ITR at Chandipur. The missile is capable of carrying 500 to 1000 kg of
warheads and is powered by liquid propulsion twin engines.
Mumbai in top 20 most expensive cities in Asia for expatriates: Mercer
Mumbai has been included in the list of top 20
most-expensive cities in Asia for expatriates as
its residential housing prices remain the
highest in the world , according to a recent
survey done by global consulting leader-
Mercer. As per Mercer's 25th Annual Cost of
Living Survey, Mumbai dropped down 12 spots and was ranked at the 67th position out of the
total 209 cities that were surveyed. Meanwhile, the other Indian cities apart from Mumbai, that
have been included in the list are New Delhi at 118th place, Chennai is ranked at 154th position,
Bengaluru stands at 179th position, and Kolkata at 189th place. It may be noted that the costliest

city in the world is Hong Kong for the second consecutive year, followed by Tokyo, Singapore
and Seoul.
World Youth Conference on kindness held in New Delhi
O P Jindal Global University (JGU) and
Delhi-based UNESCO MGIEP (Mahatma
Gandhi Institute of Education for Peace and
Sustainable Development) will jointly
organize the first World Youth Conference
on kindness from August 20-23 to
commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. The World Youth Congress 2019
is being organised on the theme 'Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam: Gandhi for the Contemporary
World: Celebrating the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.'
Life-size sculpture of Maharaja Ranjit Singh unveiled at historic Lahore Fort
A life-size sculpture of Maharaja Ranjit Singh,
who ruled over Punjab for close to 40 years in
the early 19th century, was unveiled at the
historic Lahore Fort in Pakistan to mark his
180th death anniversary. It took eight months to
complete the eight-foot tall statue of the Sikh
ruler sitting on his favorite horse named Kahar Bahar. The horse was a gift from Dost
Muhammad Khan, the founder of the Barazkai dynasty.

RBI developed FLAIR a portal for reporting of Foreign Liabilities and Assets
The Reserve Bank with effect from June 29, 2019,
will replace the email-based annual reporting of
Foreign Liabilities and Assets (FLA) by direct
investment companies, with web-based Foreign
Liabilities and Assets Information Reporting
(FLAIR) system. The web-portal would also
contain the user manual and FAQs in this regard. The move is consistent with the enhanced
information security policy and is expected to further improve the quality of data.
MoA signed to set up Centre for Inland & Coastal Maritime Technology at IIT Kharagpur
A Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) was
signed between the Ministry of Shipping and
IIT, Kharagpur for setting up the Centre for
Inland and Coastal Maritime Technology. The
Centre will focus on indigenization of ship
designing, building and testing.
The MoA was signed by IIT Kharagpur Director, Professor Partha P Chakraborty, and Joint
Secretary in the Ministry of Shipping, Kailash Kumar Aggarwal in the presence of Shipping
Minister Mansukh L Mandaviya in New Delhi.

Ahmedabad, Kobe exchange LoI for sister city partnership
Authorities from the Japanese city of Kobe
exchanged a Letter of Intent (LoI) with their
counterparts in Ahmedabad for a sister city
partnership, which will pave the way for an
enhanced economic relationship between the two
vibrant cities as well as the two countries. The LoI
was exchanged in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who visited Kobe to address
a large Indian diaspora event.
P B Acharya sworn in as Governor of Manipur
Padmanabha Balakrishna Acharya was
sworn in as the Governor of Manipur. Justice
Lanusungkum Jamir of the High Court of
Manipur administered the oath of office to
Acharya at the Darbar Hall of the Raj Bhavan.
Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh his
cabinet colleagues, MLAs, top civil and police officers attended the swearing-in ceremony.
Acharya will discharge the functions of the Governor of Manipur, in addition to his own duties
(Nagaland Governor), during the absence (on leave) of Dr Najma Heptulla, Governor of
Manipur.

Indian woman Priya Serrao crowned Miss Universe Australia
India born Priya Serrao, whose family migrated
to Australia from Middle East, has won the
Miss Universe Australia title for 2019. Serrao
edged past 26 other women from across the
country in Melbourne on Thursday night to win
the title. The 26-year-old will now represent
Australia in the Miss Universe competition later this year. Western Australia’s Bella Kasimba
and another Victorian Marijana Radmanovic rounded out 2019’s top three, placing second and
third.
Virat Kohli becomes fastest to score 20,000 runs in international cricket
India skipper Virat Kohli added another feather
to his cap as he became the fastest batsman to
score 20,000 international runs when he reached
37 against the West Indies during their World
Cup tie at Old Trafford. He also registered 9,000
runs batting at the number three spot.
The India skipper reached the 20,000-international run milestone in 416 innings (131 in Tests,
223 in ODIs and 62 in T20Is). Tendulkar and Lara, both had reached the milestone in 453
innings, followed by former Australian skipper Ricky Ponting who scored 20,000 runs in 468
innings.

G20 summit 2019 kicked off in Osaka, Japan
The G20 Summit is formally known as the
'Summit on Financial Markets and the World
Economy.' As the 'premier forum for
international economic corporation'
representing more than 80 percent of the global
GDP, the G20 has made continuous efforts
towards achieving robust global economic growth. The 2019 G20 Osaka summit will be the
fourteenth edition of the G20 summit. This year, the summit will be held from June 28, 2019, to
June 29, 2019, at the International Exhibition Center in Osaka. This will be the first G20 summit
to be hosted in Japan. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is representing India in the two days G20
Summit 2019.
