SKIP MAHONEY AND THE CAUSALS

After more than 40 years in the business, Skip Mahoney and the Casuals are still performing before adoring fans and sellout crowds. Skip Mahoney and The Casuals were formed in 1965 at a house party in Washington D.C. The original members of the group are Roger Chapman, George Norris, and Skip Mahoney. The other original member is Billy Jones, who was later replaced by current member Morris “Spunky” Cobb.

Skip Mahoney and The Casuals first tasted success in 1973 with the release of its first album entitled “Your Funny Moods” for D.C. International Records. This album produced local favorites “I Need Your Love” and “Your Funny Moods” but did not receive substantial national radio play. The release of their “Land of Love” album in 1976 propelled Skip Mahoney and The Casuals into the national limelight, producing several chartbusting songs that have stood the test of time. “Land of Love” is a trademark album for connoisseurs of falsetto based of the mid 70’s. Dazzling hooks and a solid false tenor propelled the drop-dead gorgeous “Bless My Soul” into the R&B top 40 for 15 weeks in September 1976. With the release of “Wherever You Go”, Skip Mahoney and The Casuals received both national and international notoriety for its tight harmony and the impeccable falsetto of lead singer, Skip Mahoney. To this day, a Skip Mahoney and the Casuals concert would not be complete without an audience sing along of “Wherever you Go”.

Over the course of their more than 40 year of performing, Skip Mahoney and The Casuals have shared the stage with such legendary acts as , The Four Tops, The Manhattans, The O’Jays, Stevie Wonder and a virtual who’s who of nationally acclaimed acts. In their travels, they have performed at The Apollo Theater, The Beacon Theater, The Howard Theater, The Kennedy Center, Constitution Hall and many other famed venues. In 2017 the group was inducted into the Hall of Fame. The ceremony was held in Detroit, MI where the museum may be built in the near future.
