Studies in Moraceae III. Additional notes on the genus Clarisia Ruiz et Pavon Emend. Lanj..

Some months the first author in his Studies in ago published Moraceae II bot. néerl. (Rec. trav. XXXIII, 1936, pp. 254 —276) of the Clarisia R. P. The second author traced a synopsis genus & in the Berlin Herbarium of this which had been a specimen genus As described in 1821 as Excoecaria ilicifolia Spreng. this species is of identic with Clarisia strepitans (Fr. Allem.) Lanj., the name
the latter has be As addition species to changed. in some interesting
specimens were kindly sent to Utrecht for determination by the
Herbaria at Berlin-Dahlem (D), Geneva (G) and the Arnold Ar-
boretum, Jamaica Plain (A), it seemed desirable to publish these
notes.

I have now seen the plant collected by Pavon in the Herb.
Geneva, which was described by Macbride (Publ. Field Mus. Hist. Ser. Clarisia P. Nat. Bot. XI, 1931, p. 15) as racemosa R. &
Macbride who at Geneva when was working my paper came out, label the Sorocea hirtella gives now on a following statement: „cf.
Mildbr. Lanjouw’s Interpretation of Clarisia racemosa is cor- rect as to original (seen by me) at Madrid! Perhaps this specimen
collected referred to the but not was later, genus (Clarisia) pu- blished.” I with Macbride that this agree specimen is a Soro-
cea and closely related to S. hirtella Mildbr. I will deal with this in another specimen paper. Additional material:

P I collected by a v o n, give here some additions to the description. and subcoriaceous Leaves up to 18 cm long 8 cm broad, to ohartaceous. Female flowers paired in the axils of the leaves. The cylindric irregulary lobed collar of the perianth is fimbriate. Fruit
18 —20 mm in diameter.

Clarisia mexicana l.c. (Liebm.) Lanj. p. 270. of Complete material this species was sent to me by Dr. John- Arnold Plain ston of the Arboretum, Jamaica (Mass.).
The following lines have to be added to the description:

Now that additional female material is available of various
