SUMMARY This report summarizes the geotechnical pre-investigation that was conducted at the site of Bremangerlandet wind farm on the behalf of Bremangerlandet Vindpark AS. The site is characterized by blockfield in the west, marshland in the center and astern part, and rock outcrops in the southern part and by T5-T8. The depositional thickness seldom reach more than one meter in thickness; however, the soil thickness in the western part could not be estimated during the survey. Therefore, Multiconsult Norge AS suggests that further investigation is conducted – either with a drill rig in the design phase or with an excavator during the construction phase.

Introduction Bremangerlandet Vindpark AS is planning to build a wind farm on Bremangerlandet in Bremanger municipality in , and has hired Multiconsult Norge AS to design it. Wind turbines are large structures that require extensive infrastructure, and each of the turbines apply a large load on the ground. A successfully designed wind farm require extensive knowledge of the ground conditions. Multiconsult Norge AS was therefore asked to investigate the ground condition in terms of depth to rock and the quality of the bedrock at the turbines sites and for the construction road between the turbines. Furthermore, if the soil thickness is large, Multiconsult Norge AS was asked to plan a drilling program to gain more information about the ground condition at the turbine sites and the accompanying infrastructures. The rock mass related ground investigations are presented in 10211972-RIGberg-RAP-001. This report describes the ground condition from the with respect to soil and gives recommendation for further actions.

.1 Site investigation The ground conditions for the areas for the turbine foundation and the centerline for the road was investigated by Christoffer Taule from Multiconsult Norge AS on August 28th and 29th. The depositional thickness was checked with a steel rod.

Basis Figure 1 shows that the area is currently accessible from the western and eastern periphery. There exists exposed rock in the westernmost- and easternmost areas, while there are few exposures in the central part. Figure 2Error! Reference source not found. shows the quaternary deposits on the island, as mapped by NGU. The area consists mainly of thin moraine cover with some scattered rock outcrops (mainly western- and eastern periphery), peat deposit (in the center), weathering material (Steinfjellet) and thick moraine cover (Oldeide). The map is based on surveys of the terrain surface. The turbine points and accompanying infrastructure are shown in 10211972-RIG-TEG-001 Infrastructure.

Observations The observations that were made during the fieldwork are given in Chapter 0 and summarized in drawing No. 10211972-RIG-TEG-004. The pictures from the work were uploaded on the file server that Vestavind Energi AS (Bremangerlandet Vindpark AS) shared with Multiconsult Norge AS. Generally, boulders characterize the western area, which locally is covered by a thin vegetation cover or peat deposit, of unknown thickness. The central area (east of T12, as shown in drawing No. 10211972-RIG-TEG-003) is dominated by marshland with peat deposit that is locally thicker than 1.2 m (stop due to high resistance); this area contains few boulders and some outcrops. Rock outcrops characterize the area at T5 to T8 (see drawing No. 10211972-RIG-TEG-003) and there are locally peat deposits with thicknesses of less than 1.0 m. Furthermore, rock outcrops dominate Blåfjellet (southeastern area), whereas marshland characterize the area where the access road from Oldeide is to be established; the depositional thickness of the peat is up to 1.0 m here.

Limitations The depositional thicknesses was checked with a steel rod. Registrations at the road were made along the centreline. There may be places where the thickness succeed the registered maximum thickness. The steal rod penetrates into peat, but will stop in the transition to harder resistance materials such as sand. Multiconsult Norge AS takes no liability for potential financial overruns that may be caused by data in this report.

Recommendations The thickness to solid rock is generally less than 1.0 m in the areas east of T11, as seen in Figure 3. With the used equipment, Multiconsult Norge AS was not able to estimate the thickness to solid rock for most of the areas west of T11. Therefore, Multiconsult Norge AS recommend that the depth to solid rock is estimated by soundings with a drilling rig or test pits dug with an excavator. The investigation can be done during the study- or at the start of the construction phase.
