Managing Director’s Report June 2005

1 Traffic

1,574,350 passengers used Southampton Airport between 1 May 2004 and 30 April 2005. This represents a 12% increase on the previous 12 months.

The number of commercial aircraft movements between 1 May 2004 and 30 April 2005 was 38,558, up 8.8%.

The cumulative market share for the 12 month period to 30 April 2005 is as follows:

International 39% Domestic 41% Channel Islands 20%

There are now flights to 40 destinations in 12 countries.

New Routes

EuroManx - New Partner EuroManx flights to the started on 23 March, 2005, offering connections to Jersey and Europe via Southampton.

EuroManx has also announced new routes to Vienna and Eindhoven. We are waiting for confirmation of the start date of these routes.

Flybe - Limoges, Rennes, Bordeaux, Brest, and Leeds Limoges is in the Limousin region of Central France, famous for its porcelain and beautiful countryside. This route commenced on 27 March 2005.

Flights also started to Brest in northern France on the 23 March.

Rennes in France began on the 12 May. Rennes, situated in Brittany, is a historic centre with grand architecture dating back to the 16th Century.

Routes to Liverpool and Leeds, also started on the 12 May.

On 13 May, travellers from Southampton started to fly directly to Bordeaux. Bordeaux is in a unique location providing easy access to the Atlantic Ocean, the Bassin d’Arcachon, the Basque Country and the Pyrenees.

Eastern Airways – More frequency has added a new 4th daily rotation to it’s busy Southampton - Leeds schedule. Eastern Airways has also added a mid day direct flight between Southampton and Aberdeen, which began on the 14 March. Holiday Options - New Tour Operator Holiday Options began it’s new weekly Saturday service to Sardinia on 14 May 2005.

Balkan Holidays – New Tour Operator Balkan Holidays has announced that it will be operating a weekly departure to Bulgaria for Summer 2006.

2 Noise Preferred Routeing

From 1 July for six months the 2005, Noise Preferred Routeing Trials will be taking place. The trials aim to identify the most effective routes for aircraft in order to minimise the noise impact on local communities. The noise trials focus on two main aspects – arrivals from the south of the airport and departures to the north. The results will be reviewed in 2006 by the Airport Technical Working Group. This group consists of representatives from the airport, local council officers, airline members and the Chairman of the Southampton Airport Consultative Committee. Southampton Airport will be consulting with the communities that may be affected by this year’s trials and seeking the views of local people on the impact of the changes.

3 Management and Staff

There are currently over 1,500 people employed on site, of which 195 are employed by BAA.

In the past few months we have employed 2 new Cleaners, 1 General Services Assistant, 5 Assistant Security Supervisors, 14 Security Officers and 2 Information Assistants.

We have also appointed Mo Fitzpatrick to cover Jacqui Johnson’s maternity cover as Head of Development Strategy and Planning. Mo joins us from Gatwick as an Environmental Project Manager.

Michelle Theobalds, formerly Head of Human Resources, has been appointed to replace Gary Brown as Head of Security and Service Delivery. Gayle Callaway has taken over the position of Head of Human Resources.

Graham Bartlett, Senior Airport Fire Officer, will be leaving BAA on 27 May after 21 ½ years service. Phil Beattie, currently the Deputy Senior Airport Fire Officer at Heathrow, has been appointed to take his place. Mick Wenham retired from the position of Station Officer on 18 April and Jason Sugden has been appointed to replace him.

Clare Cole joined the team as our Communications Manager on 23 May, and Mandy Khaira joins us as Marketing Manager on 6 June 2005.

Andrew Mintram has been appointed to the role of Airport Duty Manager following his fixed- term appointment. He has also been temporarily seconded to the role of Terminal Operations Manager until Hazel Screech returns from maternity leave.

David Poat has joined us as Head of Supply Chain for a year. He will be responsible for setting up the Supply Chain function at Southampton.

Chief Executive Visit

2 Mike Clasper is due to visit the Airport on 31 May 2005 for an informal visit, and will spend time visiting different departments.

Work Experience

We hosted 6 work experience placements from Bitterne Park School in March 2005. The students had the opportunity to work across different departments in order to get a real flavour for working life at the airport. The placements were a real success with all involved.

Eastleigh Jobs Fair

Southampton Airport was a sponsor of the Eastleigh Jobs Fair held in the Swan Centre in Eastleigh on 17 March 2005.

Well-Being Day

A Well-being day was held for all airport staff on 1 February 2005. The aim of the day was to encourage staff to seek free advice and support from a variety of local health sources such as the NHS ‘Quitters’ team and local alternative therapists.

4 Planning and Development

Road Humps

Some of the road humps on Mitchell Way, leading into the Airport, have been removed. This has been particularly welcomed by Unilink Bus Company.

Departure Lounge Redevelopment

Fit-out of the 1st floor and the security search area is now well under way with most of the partitioning already in place. Construction of the new lift shaft has been completed. Scaffolding has now gone up airside and in the Departure Lounge, the 1st floor windows have been removed to enable construction of the new glass balcony.

Work is on schedule to deliver the first phase for early July 2005.

Baggage

Works to provide a brand new hold baggage screening machine in the baggage area have now been completed and the machine and belts have been commissioned and handed over to the business.

Staff Car park

Construction of the new staff car park at the southern end of the airfield has been completed with staff successfully relocated on Thursday 26 May.

Common User Self Service Check In

Work has now commenced to consider the provision of Common User Self Service check-in Kiosks on the departures concourse of the terminal. 5 Environment

Travel Plan

3 Southampton Airport promotes its car share scheme encouraging new members to join. This scheme aims to help ease congestion on roads, reduce staff fuel costs and relieve the stress of driving long distances. The airport wide scheme now has 137 registered members.

Audits The CAA Licensing Audit was carried out in May which had excellent results.

6 Passenger Services

Service Delivery Standards

At the end of the financial year the service standards scores on the Quality of Service Monitor remained robust with only those related to the departure facilities showing decline, it is anticipated these will change when the new facilities are open.

Southampton was the top of the BAA Group in Toilet Cleanliness, Security Waiting Time and Security Staff Helpfulness.

Customer Service Duty Assistants

To assist the Airport Duty Managers, we are currently recruiting Customer Service Duty Assistants. Their role will be to ensure the passenger operation runs smoothly by proactive management of daily issues.

7 Community

Southampton Airport held its 4th Stakeholder & Community Conference at the Rose Bowl in West End on 13 May. We were delighted to welcome over 90 delegates from a wide range of organisations including council members and officers, Southampton Airport Consultative Committee, Hampshire Economic Partnership and residents associations. This regularly- held conference is an opportunity for the airport to update interested parties on a number of airport issues and outline its future plans, as well as answering questions and listening to the views of local people. Hampshire Youth Games

Southampton Airport are sponsoring the coaching and transport for the City of Southampton and the Borough of Eastleigh sport teams to enable them to attend the Hampshire Youth Games, the region’s leading youth sport event. The coaching helped children aged between 9 and 14 years old to gain the skills necessary to compete successfully in the Games. Harlum Globe Trotter basketball star Alan Cunningham met the teams at Southampton Airport. The Hampshire Youth Games will take place on 25 June 2005. 8 Marketing

We hosted a visit on 6 April 2005 for dignitaries and media from Perpignan in France who came to look at the tourism and business opportunities in this region.
