The accolades continue to roll in for sprinter Xavier Carter as he was named the NCAA Division I Men's Indoor Track Athlete of the Year by the USTFCCCA. Carter capped a stellar indoor season at the NCAA Championships, winning the 400 meters, anchoring the Tigers' to gold in the 4x400-meter relay and finishing second in the 200 meters. Carter, just the second Tiger in school history to ever win the 400 meters at the indoor national meet, did so in school record time as he crossed the line in blazing 45.28 speed. The time, a new personal best, ranks as the third fastest in collegiate history. REGIONAL QUALIFIERS willie claims tigers’ all-time all-america awards record After earning a pair of All-America honors in the 200 meters and the 4x400-meter relay at the NCAA Men Indoor Championships, senior Kelly Willie became the outright owner of the Tigers’ all-time all-America Athlete Event Time/Mark awards record, having earned 16 accolades during his career. Willie previously shared the school record with former Tiger great as each owned 14 All-America honors.

Jav...... 151-4 For the first time in program history the Tigers and Lady Tigers swept the 4x400-meter relay titles at the NCAA Indoor Championships. The Tiger foursome of Kelly Willie, Reggie Dardar, Melville Rogers and Xavier Carter claimed the third indoor relay title in Tiger history (2001, ‘03, ‘06), crossing the line with a school record time of 3:04.01. The women’s foursome of Brooklynn Morris, Juanita Broaddus, Cynetheia Rooks and Deonna Lawrence claimed the fifth indoor relay title in Lady Tiger history (1987, ‘89, ‘93, ‘96, 2006), recording a season-best effort of 3:29.33.

carter tops world indoor list Sprinter Xavier Carter proved he can compete with the best athletes not only in the NCAA, but in the world, this indoor season. En route to the NCAA title in the 400 meters, Carter clocked the world’s fastest time on record in the event in 2006, crossing the line in blazing 45.28 speed. The time, a per- sonal best and new LSU school record, even bettered the meet-winning time of 45.58 posted at the IAAF World Indoor Championships. In addition, Carter clocked the second fastest time in the world in the 200 meters in 2006 (20.30). The time, another school record and personal best, also ranks as the eighth fastest time ever run in the history of the world.

carter goes undefeated in the 400 meters Sophomore Xavier Carter concluded the 2006 indoor season undefeated in the 400 meters, winning seven straight races when including preliminary and final round competition. He claimed meet titles at both the New Balance (46.40) and Tyson (5.89) Invitationals before capping the year with wins at both the SEC (46.59) and NCAA (45.28) Championships.

The Houston native opened the season with a then personal-best effort of 8.35 seconds. Carter just wrapped up his sophomore season as a wide receiver for the Tigers where he played in 10 games, including LSU’s 40-3 win over Miami in the Peach Bowl. Carter finished the year with four catches for 86 yards, including a 49-yard touchdown reception in LSU’s win over North Texas. He also scored on a 36-yard run against Mississippi State and concluded the year with a total of 27 yards on four rushes.
