My name is Damon Kamamo Dias, I am running for a position on the Board of Governors of the State Bar of , and I ask for your vote.

My legal career began in Florida, where I moved to from Hawaii to go to law school. I graduated form the University of Miami School of Law, and my first job as an attorney was with what was considered a small, boutique law firm of 35 attorneys. From the beginning, I recognized the importance of being involved with the bar association and being around like minded attorneys who wanted to elevate the profession as well as the business. I was initially active with the local bar association. Later, I left the firm and joined a nationwide, fortune 500 company which provided HR and hiring assistance to law firms. This position put me in contact with the decision makers of some of the nation’s largest and most storied law firms. While the position was a in networking, which, as a recent transplant from Hawaii, was invaluable, the desire to return to the full time practice of law was ever present.

In 2002, I made the decision to return to my roots on the west coast, and I decided upon Las Vegas, where my brother had recently graduated from UNLV as an engineer. Though I transferred to Las Vegas with the fortune 500 company, I soon left and went to work for the State Bar of Nevada where I ran the Lawyer Referral and Information Service program. While with the State Bar, I had the opportunity to present annual budgets and progress reports to the Board of Governors, I met many influential people in the legal community, and I helped implement a grant program which gives annually to local bar associations and law related groups today.

In 2004, I took the Nevada bar exam and returned to the full time practice of law when I joined the law firm of Goldsmith and Guymon. I followed the advice of my mentor and friend, Dara Goldsmith, who was then a member of the Board of Governors of the State Bar of Nevada, and I started to be active with the bar. I joined several committees, one with the state bar, one with the ABA and two with the Clark County Bar Association. In 2008 I ran and was elected to the Clark County Bar Association Executive Board, and in 2015, I served as its president.

I am presently an Ex-Officio member of the Clark County Bar Association Executive Board and I am the Clark County Bar Association’s lone delegate to the ABA.

Today, I am a solo practitioner. I started my firm, Dias Law Group, Ltd., in 2008. My primary practice areas are Bankruptcy and Domestic law. My philosophy is two prong: first, to provide clients with the best representation I am able to provide. This includes providing honest, straight forward, well researched advice which has been learned and improved upon through hard work and years of experience; and second, I always make time for pro bono clients and volunteer work. Always.

I will bring experience and a strong work ethic to the position, should I be elected to serve as a member of the Board of Governors of the State Bar of Nevada. I am familiar with the State Bar of Nevada’s goals and its strategic plans for the present and future, and I promise to work hard for the entire state bar membership. I ask for your vote so that we may work together to continue to support and improve our profession.

Thank you for taking the time to read this, I look forward to seeing you at bar functions for years to come.
