WJW – , OH This report covers the time period November 1, 2005 to October 31, 2007 (except where otherwise specifically noted).

I. PROGRAMMING:

a. Local Newscasts: WJW-TV airs 42 hrs of local newscasts every week:

Monday-Friday: 5 a.m. – 9 a.m. Noon -12:30pm 5 p.m.- 6 p.m. 10 p.m.-11 p.m.

Saturday-Sunday: 6 p.m. -6:30 p.m. 10 p.m. -11:p.m.

Sunday: 8 p.m. – 9 p.m.

b. Breaking News: WJW broke into and/or preempted regularly scheduled programming on numerous occasions during the period covered by this report in order to bring its viewers breaking news or disaster information. This coverage included extended reporting on severe weather warnings, amber alerts, school closings, and other emergencies. A comprehensive list of cut-ins and crawls is attached as Exhibit 1.

c. Local News Stories: Provided below are examples of local news stories and special assignment stories aired on WJW during the report period:

i. Community Issues: Fox 8 in the Morning airs Monday through Friday from 5 a.m. until 9 a.m. During the 7 a.m. and 8 a.m. hours, segments are often produced in-studio that offer Northeast Ohioans timely information about issues affecting their community. The service these segments provide publicity for an event and information about a topic that affects the community as a whole.

ii. School Closings: During the school year, the station provides information on more than 3,000 schools in the viewing area. This 24/7 service is the largest and most self-reliant system in Northeast . The community has referred to Fox 8 as the “Official School Closing Station.”

iii. Traffic: A helicopter and reporter provide live traffic reports during newscasts. A comprehensive list of the station’s local news stories is attached hereto as Exhibit 2. d. Political Coverage:

WJW has devoted significant airtime to political issues important to its viewers. During the report period, there was a live broadcast of the State of the Union and Democratic response. Topics discussed during newscasts included analysis of the mayor and governor’s annual “State of the City” and “State of the State” speeches, and a debate between gubernatorial candidates. A comprehensive list of WJW’s political programming specials as well as political issues covered in the station’s local newscasts is attached as Exhibit 3.

e. Public Affairs Programming:

WJW broadcasts several public affairs programs throughout the year. The programs highlight the Cleveland area. Neighborhood is a quarterly special that focuses primarily on the African- American community about issues such as the shortage of organ donors and illiteracy and learning problems faced by Northeast Ohioan children. One Tank Trips is a regularly aired show, featuring places of interest in the Cleveland area; for example, the host visited a holiday lights display and a local amusement park.

WJW has aired a variety of locally-produced programs of interest to the community, including Cleveland sports teams and local travel. A list of all specials aired during the report period are attached as Exhibit 4.

II. PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENTS (PSAS):

For the period January 8-21, 2007, WJW aired 22:40 minutes of PSAs at no charge. Topics of the PSAs included the television ratings system, homelessness, domestic violence prevention and assistance, mentoring, amber alerts, dental health and hygiene, education, booster seat education, child safety, performing arts, foreclosure prevention, Cleveland sports and volunteerism. WJW aired 12 minutes of paid PSAs during the same period about homelessness, domestic violence prevention and assistance, local performing arts and education, volunteerism and Cleveland sports.

For the period June 11-24, 2007, WJW aired 12:30 minutes of PSAs at no charge. Topics of the PSAs included homelessness, domestic violence prevention and assistance, local performing arts and education, volunteerism, and Cleveland sports.

WJW aired PSAs specifically targeting or requested by community groups or addressing local issues in both report periods (12 minutes and 7:40 minutes respectively) on the topics of homelessness, domestic violence prevention and assistance, local performing arts and education, volunteerism and Cleveland sports.

III. PARTICIPATION IN COMMUNITY

WJW communicates with the community through daily newscasts, telephone calls, letters and e-mails. Viewers are asked during newscasts to write or call with comments. Segments of Fox 8 News at Five and Fox 8 News In The Morning are specifically slated for viewer comments that are read on-air, including the Emmy award winning "Fox Unplugged". This is also a channel through which the station receives story ideas and topics of interest from within the community. WJW’s Call for Action Volunteers take numerous phone calls from viewers that need help with various situations. Every e-mail receives a response and all written communication is located in the Public File.

WJW’s management, on-air talent and other station employees have made a commitment to participate in the Cleveland community. They have taken part in a variety of events in and around the city, such as: • Guest Speaker, New Bethlehem Full Gospel Baptist Church – Black History Prayer Breakfast 4

• Speaker, Ohio Department of Rehabilitation & Correction • Emcee, Jack & Jill of America Senior Banquet • Guest speaker, Zoo 150th Anniversary • Reading to children in a Head Start class • Celebrity Chef, Dave Thomas Celebrity Cookoff • Emcee, Westlake High School Celebrity Basketball Game (fundraiser)

Station employees sit on the boards and/or are members of the following diversity organizations: NAACP, Japanese-American Citizens League, Cleveland Media Diversity Council and Esperanza, Inc.

IV. WEBSITE

Fox 8 operates a highly local website, www.myfoxcleveland.com, to provide news and information for the community. It includes specific sections for local news, weather, traffic, sports, blogs and message boards. Newcasts from 7-9am, noon-12:30pm and 5-6pm are live streamed, but not archived in their entirety; however, segments of every newscast are recorded by story and posted on the website.

The station transmits two daily email newsletters to website registrants with updated local weather and news information; in the event of a major news or weather event, a breaking news newsletter is sent out. During severe weather events, weather video and live updates are live streamed from meteorologists and live chat for users. Information on school and community closings due to weather or other reasons is updated and posted.

There is a mobile version of the website, wap.myfoxcleveland.com, which provides local news, weather, traffic and sports content. The traffic page provides live updates on traffic accidents and construction that may delay drivers. The website utilizes email, live chats, blogs and message boards to communicate with its users and allows them to communicate with each other. Some of the other features of the site include: • A “Hot List” page provides information about local businesses, allowing them to post images and information to potential customers and allowing customers to post comments about the businesses to help other users learn more about the businesses. • Job listings and digital TV survival guide section: There is a special section for job listings and a digital TV survival guide to help people get information about the switch from analog to digital transmission 5 and links users to the online application for the converter box coupons.
