Q&A WITH SIX RIVERS BOARD CHAIR VICTOR FERN

Q : WHAT ARE THE PRIORITIES OF THE FUND ? A : Our focus will be on supporting projects that have benefit across the north, as well as those that support a region of the north or a specific community. While the trust grows in the first three to five years, priority will be given to projects that support youth, education, health and wellness, and sports and recreation. Once it is more established, we might turn the focus to things such a community infrastructure.

Q : WHO DECIDES WHAT PROJECTS ARE FUNDED ? A : All decisions will be made by the Six Rivers Board. That includes myself, Isidore Campbell, William Dumais, and Angie Merasty. Together, we provide representation from each region of northern Saskatchewan.

Q : WHAT’S THE CRITERIA TO APPLY ? A : Community organizations and new businesses are eligible to apply. The money coming from the trust cannot be the sole source of money for a project. We are looking to see a minimum of 25% to come from other sources. We hope this measure helps lever funds from other sources to increase the potential benefit to northerners.
