ESSENTIAL EVENT GUIDE

WHAT IS A #SUPBIKERUN EVENT? #supbikerun is a super fun and friendly mixed discipline event that is open to all abilities. Our event combines stand up paddleboarding, mountain biking and trail running. Each event is open to two categories of participant:

WARRIOR – 3K SUP, 15K Bike and 5K Trail Run BARBARIAN – 6K SUP, 30K Bike and 10K Trail Run

We operate a double loop system. This simply means any participant that has entered, as a Barbarian will complete two laps of each course. Unlike a traditional triathlon event we do not operate with a mass start. Instead, we deliver a phased registration over 3hrs (8am-10am) and release the participants out on to the lake in small groups as hire boards become available. We will always try to start the Barbarians first to ensure they finish as early as possible.

ARRIVING AT CLUMBER PARK Clumber Park is well signed from all the major road junctions. All participants are required to print off the Windscreen pass included within the Essential Event Guide. Place this in your windscreen and this will fast track you through the main gates. As you head down in to the park, you will see the camping field signed on your left hand side. If you carry on down you will find the main parking areas as indicated on our map.

CAMPING You can arrive to set up your camping pitch any time from Friday 1st Sept between 7am – 6pm, our camping field is clearly signed. Simply find a free space and set up your pitch, you do not have to check in or register with us before parking your van, caravan or pitching your tent. We have positioned porta loo toilets in this area; these are reserved exclusively for campers and are fitted with hand sanitizers. Please note this is a basic level camping field with no facilities and fires are not permitted. It is also very important that you lock all valuable away in your car and ensure bikes and boards are locked. There are no security staff in the camping field and #supbikerun and The National Trust take no responsibility for your bikes, boards or personal items. Please ensure you take all rubbish and litter away with you.

FOOD AND REFRESHMENTS Open daily from 9am, Clumber Café offers a relaxed space with gorgeous views over the lake from the Dukes study, to a range of large and small tables and high chairs to suit all your family’s needs whatever the size. Breakfast baps from 9am and hot meals will be available to campers and participants until 5pm. There will also be a BBQ on both the Saturday and Sunday from 12- 3pm, served directly outside the café, which is close to our main registration area. All campers should ensure they are well stocked up, as there are no shops or pubs within walking distance.

GET YOUR WRISTBAND All participants and guests of participants must wear a wristband. Upon arrival, get set up, relax and then when you are ready, make your way to the main registration area to sign in and get your wristband (registration opens at 9am Saturday morning). Participants will wear a WHITE wristband with race number; friends and family of participants can purchase a PINK wristband for £10. This allows them to take part in the Saturday SUP activities (taster sessions, yoga, sprint racing and master classes). PLEASE NOTE – by signing in you are only collecting your wristband, you still need to register for the main event on the Sunday morning at your designated time (8am, 9am, 10am)... if you are unsure of your registration time simply check at registration.

WHAT TO WEAR For the main event on Sunday we always suggest that what you wear for the bike is what you wear for the duration of the #supbikerun. Unless it’s horrendous weather and pouring with rain then you don’t require a wetsuit for the SUP. You really want to make it easy for yourself and limit getting changed. Just be sensible, watch the forecast and dress appropriately. For the Saturday SUP activities, once again be prepared. If you have your own wetsuit then certainly bring it with you, if it is chilly or raining then at least you can continue with your SUP sessions in relative warmth and comfort. Please note, there are no showers at Clumber Park so it’s either strip washing in the toilets or bring wet wipes and towels if camping.

SATURDAY SUP ACTIVITIES Registration is located on the green next to the old cobbled slipway accessing the lake. The Saturday SUP sessions will run all day Saturday. They will be delivered by 6 instructors on a first come first served basis. The morning will be dedicated to delivering the Taster and Yoga sessions, the N1SCO Sprint Race and Master Classes will run in the afternoon. Simply head over to registration and check in, we will then get you out on the water ASAP. If you are bringing friends and family with you, as long as they have a PINK wristband then they are permitted to access the water and take part in SUP sessions (wristbands for guests, family, general public are £10 per person). Any Teams wanting to test out an XL SUP board are permitted, simply check in with us and we will issue you paddles and a board.

THE MAIN EVENT When you purchased your event ticket you would have selected a registration time (8am, 9am, 10am). This is NOT your start time but the time you have to attend the main registration zone. The registration zone is located by the WIGGLE tents on the green (see attached site map). At registration, you will be allocated your goody bag containing race numbers (please label all kit), chip timer (attach to left ankle) and Tech Tee (wear with pride).

Once registered, take your bike to the transition zone and leave your personal belongings by your bike (don’t forget your helmet, NO HELMET - NO RIDE!). The bike transition zone is a safe zone controlled by marshals. Once you are ready, and only when you are ready, make your way to the SUP start zone. If you are using your own board then ensure you have placed a race number on it and ensure you have your leash attached. If you are using a hire board then these will be waiting for you at the start zone (please note you may have to wait 10-20 minutes for a board to become available). The safety marshals will group you and phase you on to the lake in small groups. If you are a Warrior then complete one circuit of the SUP course (3K), if you are a Barbarian you will complete two laps (6K). As you exit the lake, a safety marshal will take your board from you. All boards will be stored in a safe area ready for collection at the end of the day. Please note only the person who owns the board and is wearing a numbered wristband is permitted to collect the board.

Following the SUP, you will enter the bike transition zone, get yourself ready, get your helmet on then walk your bike out of this zone to the mount zone. You will then ride out along the tree-lined avenue before breaking right. The route is signed and marshalled but please be aware of any traffic or pedestrians that may cross the route (we will do our best to limit this). Now you are out on the bike course simply follow the PINK signs and enjoy the beautiful ride. We have placed distance markers on the 15K course. Warriors will complete one lap and Barbarians will continue back around the course, completing a 2nd lap before heading back in to bike transition.

Once your bike is back in the transition zone, head out and follow the RUN OUT sign, you will then follow the YELLOW signs on lovely woodland 5K trail. Once again we have placed distance markers for you, Warriors complete one nd lap and Barbarians will go around to complete the 2 lap before crossing the finish line.

THE TRANSITION PROCESS

We try to make the flow of our events as safe and easy to follow as possible. Before you head out on the lake to complete the SUP course each participant will receive a detailed safety briefing ensuring they are clear with the SUP course. Clumber Park is a super simple straight line SUP course. Enter the lake over chip timing mat 1 and head right down to the far end, go around the buoy (either way, left or right) then head back down to the start zone. If you are a Barbarian you’ll head back to complete a 2nd lap of the SUP course. As you approach the safety marshals, drop to your knees and remove your safety leash. The safety marshal will take your paddle and board leaving you free to run up the path and into the bike transition area.

Walk your bike out of the transition zone over chip timing mat 2 (do not run or cycle out of transition). Once clear of the safety marshals, jump on your bike and follow the PINK signs and PINK ribbon around the bike course. Barbarians will complete a 2nd lap of the course before riding back to transition. As you approach transition please slow right down, jump off your bike and walk the bike back into transition keeping clear of participants leaving the area.

Once your bike is safely back and you are ready, head back out over chip timing mat 2 to complete the trail run course. Follow the YELLOW signs and YELLOW ribbons around the course. Barbarians will complete a 2nd lap of the course before heading back to the WIGGLE Finish line.

SPECTATORS, GUESTS AND GENERAL PUBLIC This year we have positioned the WIGGLE finish line right within the main registration zone so your friends and family can base themselves in comfort to watch the day’s activities and cheer you on This area is just a short stroll from the toilets and café / BBQ area. In being within the registration area your friends and family will see you enter and exit the reservoir (SUP), head out and in on your bike (BIKE) and then cheer you across the finish line (RUN). Message to all family, visitors and friends... please stick to the designated walkways we have put out. That way you won’t get in the way of the participants but still remain close by to cheer them on.
