A Brief of the Acts of the Uganda Martyrs Preamble

The Martyrs are a special gift to the Church. They have been recognized as such from the very beginning of the church. An effort was always made to document their trials, passion and death which indicated their heroism in the faith and their capacity to rely on God during the immense and incredible suffering. These documentations were meant to keep the memory of the martyrs but also to inspire the church into a deeper faith in God who sustains the life of the martyr. Similarly the writings helped to strengthen and inspire the rest of the church members to be strong in their following of Jesus Christ and be ready to lay down their life for the faith assured Pope Paul VI Canonized the Uganda Martyrs of the powerful intercession of the Martyrs. One of the most beautiful of such documents is the Acts of the martyrs Perpetua and Felistas. In Uganda, a number of works have been written about the Ugandan Martyrs beginning with J. P. Thoonen’s Black Martyrs 1941, the Monographies sul ess bieneureux martyrs de Ouganda by Rene Lefebre, Abajulizi Abakatoliki Abe Buganda (1952) by Joire, Eddiini Mu Uganda Vol 111 1969 by J, Ddiba, Obulamu bw’Abajulizi vol 1&2 by Msgr. Timothy M. Ssemwogerere, The Legacy of the Uganda Martyrs by John Mary Waliggo 1988, The Uganda Martyrs are our Light by Bro. Tarcis Nsobya 2006. These are all inspiring and spiritually edifying works. This brief Acts of the 24 Uganda Martyrs is written to help us have a bird’s eye view of the life, suffering and death of the Uganda Martyrs to enrich our faith and strength our devotion to them as true intercessors for us before God so that we can become truly strong in the faith and witness to it in our own times with the some courage and zeal as they did. MEDITATION - RESPONSORIAL PSALM

THOSE WHO ARE SOWING IN TEARS By Fr. Joseph Nnamukangula.

Those, those those who are sowing in tears Will sing when they reap, will sing when they reap.

1. When Yahweh brought back Zion’s Captives home It seemed like a dream then our mouth filled with laughter and our lips with joy. 2. Even the pagans started talking about the marvels Yahweh done for us, What marvels indeed he did for us and how over joyed we were.

3. Yahweh bring our captives back again Like torrents in the Negeb, those who went sowing in tears, Now sing as they reap.
