Previous meetings • The sides are meeting for the first time. • Zulte Waregem have lost all three of their previous games against Dutch teams without scoring a single goal – including a pair of 3-0 home defeats, by Ajax in the 2006/07 UEFA Cup group stage and by PSV in the third qualifying round of the 2013/14 UEFA Champions League. • Vitesse won their only two past UEFA matches against Belgian sides without conceding: 1-0 home and away against Mechelen in the 1992/93 UEFA Cup second round. Form guide • Both clubs lost their opening two Group K games. • The 5-1 reverse to Nice on matchday one was Zulte Waregem's heaviest home defeat in UEFA competition. They are without a win in four UEFA matches (D1 L3). • Vitesse have not won in their last seven European away games (D3 L4) – a run stretching back over 15 years to a 1- 0 victory at Rapid Bucureşti in October 2002. • Zulte Waregem claimed their second Belgian Cup in 2016/17; they made it through the UEFA Cup group stage in 2006/07, but could not emulate that success in the 2013/14 UEFA Europa League. • Fifth in the Netherlands last term, Arnhem-based Vitesse are featuring in the group stage of a UEFA competition for the first time having won the Dutch Cup, their maiden major trophy. Trivia and links • The journey from Arnhem to Waregem is around 200km, making this the shortest trip of any competitor on matchday three. • Zulte Waregem midfielder Onur Kaya came through the youth ranks at Vitesse and was a first-team player from 2005–10. • Vitesse defenders Alexander Büttner (2016) and Arnold Kruiswijk (2008–10) played in Belgium with Anderlecht. • Zulte Waregem's Timothy Derijck also has extensive Dutch experience (Feyenoord 2005–09, NAC Breda 2006, Den Haag 2009–11 and 2014–16, PSV Eindhoven 2011–14, Utrecht 2013–14). • Misses next match if booked: Aaron Leya Iseka (Zulte Waregem). The coaches • Francky Dury's second coming as Zulte Waregem coach began in 2012, and he led them to a second Belgian Cup success last season. Zultse and – post-merger – Zulte Waregem boss from 1994–2010, he occupied the Gent and Belgium Under-21 helms prior to his return. • Vitesse coach since 2016, leading them to their historic Dutch Cup triumph last season, Surinam-born Henk Fraser was capped seven times by the Netherlands as a defender, spending the bulk of his playing career at Feyenoord, where he was later a youth coach. He took his first senior job at Den Haag from 2014–16. 3 SV Zulte Waregem - Vitesse Thursday 19 October 2017 - 19.00CET (19.00 local time) Match press kit Regenboogstadion, Waregem Team facts SV Zulte Waregem Formed: 2001 Nickname: Essevee UEFA club competition honours • None Domestic honours (most recent triumph in brackets) Belgian Cup: 2 (2017) Ten-year European record (UEFA Europa League/UEFA Cup unless indicated otherwise) 2016/17: did not take part in UEFA competition 2015/16: did not take part in UEFA competition 2014/15: third qualifying round 2013/14: group stage (having transferred from UEFA Champions League third qualifying round) 2012/13: did not take part in UEFA competition 2011/12: did not take part in UEFA competition 2010/11: did not take part in UEFA competition 2009/10: did not take part in UEFA competition 2008/09: did not take part in UEFA competition 2007/08: did not take part in UEFA competition Records UEFA club competition • Biggest home win 3-1: Zulte Waregem v Sparta Praha 02/11/06, UEFA Cup group stage 2-0: Zulte Waregem v Lokomotiv Moskva 28/09/06, UEFA Cup first round second leg • Biggest away win 1-4: Austria Wien v Zulte Waregem 19/10/06, UEFA Cup group stage • Heaviest home defeat 1-5: Zulte Waregem v Nice 14/09/17, UEFA Europa League group stage • Heaviest away defeat 6-2: Espanyol v Zulte Waregem 23/11/06, UEFA Cup group stage 4-0: Rubin Kazan v Zulte Waregem 03/10/13, UEFA Europa League group stage UEFA Europa League/UEFA Cup • Biggest home win 3-1: Zulte Waregem v Sparta Praha (see above) 2-0: Zulte Waregem v Lokomotiv Moskva (see above) • Biggest away win 1-4: Austria Wien v Zulte Waregem (see above) • Heaviest home defeat 1-5: Zulte Waregem v Nice (see above) • Heaviest away defeat 6-2: Espanyol v Zulte Waregem (see above) 4-0: Rubin Kazan v Zulte Waregem (see above) Vitesse Formed: 1892 Nickname: Vitas UEFA club competition honours (runners-up in brackets) • None 4 SV Zulte Waregem - Vitesse Thursday 19 October 2017 - 19.00CET (19.00 local time) Match press kit Regenboogstadion, Waregem Domestic honours (most recent triumph in brackets) Dutch Cup: 1 (2017) Ten-year European record (UEFA Europa League/UEFA Cup unless indicated otherwise) 2016/17: did not take part in UEFA club competition 2015/16: third qualifying round 2014/15: did not take part in UEFA club competition 2013/14: third qualifying round 2012/13: third qualifying round 2011/12: did not take part in UEFA club competition 2010/11: did not take part in UEFA club competition 2009/10: did not take part in UEFA club competition 2008/09: did not take part in UEFA club competition 2007/08: did not take part in UEFA club competition Records UEFA club competition • Biggest home win 3-0 three times, most recently v Maccabi Haifa 14/09/00, UEFA Cup first round first leg • Biggest away win 0-4: Dundee United v Vitesse 07/11/90, UEFA Cup second round second leg • Heaviest home defeat 0-2 three times, most recently v Southampton 06/08/15, third qualifying round second leg • Heaviest away defeat 4-1: Lens v Vitesse 28/10/99, UEFA Cup second round first leg 3-0 three times, most recently v Nice 28/09/17, UEFA Europa League third qualifying round first leg UEFA Europa League/UEFA Cup • Biggest home win 3-0 three times, most recently v Maccabi Haifa (see above) • Biggest away win 0-4: Dundee United v Vitesse (see above) • Heaviest home defeat 0-2 three times, most recently v Southampton (see above) • Heaviest away defeat 4-1: Lens v Vitesse (see above) 3-0 three times, most recently v Nice (see above) 5 SV Zulte Waregem - Vitesse Thursday 19 October 2017 - 19.00CET (19.00 local time) Match press kit Regenboogstadion, Waregem Squad list SV Zulte Waregem Current season All-time UEL League UEL UEFA No. Player Nat.
