CAMPBELL TABBED PRESEASON FAVORITE IN 2020-21 For the first time during its Big South affiliation (1986-94, 2011-present), Campbell has been voted omen s asketball the preseason women’s basketball favorite, as the defending regular-season champion received 2020-21 W ’ B six of the 11 first-place votes and 112 total points to win the conference in 2020-21. Now just the TV Schedule fifth different member in the 35-year history of Big South women’s basketball to be voted pre- season favorite (joining UNC Greensboro, Liberty, UNC Asheville and Radford), Campbell surpasses Upcoming Broadcast Schedule its previous top standing of second from five consecutive years from 1987-92. The Camels’ highest TUESDAY, DEC. 15 finish in the preseason poll since re-joining the league in 2011-12 was third (twice). RADFORD at LONGWOOD ^ ESPN+

SKYLER CURRAN VOTED PRESEASON PLAYER OF THE YEAR WEDNESDAY, DEC. 16 HIgh Point junior guard SKYLER CURRAN has been voted the Big South Conference Women’s GARDNER-WEBB at PRESBYTERIAN ^ ESPN+ Basketball Preseason Player of the Year by the league’s head coaches. She ranked third in the Big South in scoring and was 10th in rebounding -- one of just two players to rank in the Top 10 in both categories, and ranked THURSDAY, DEC. 17 among the league leaders in field goal percentage (8th – 41.8), three-point proficiency (9th – 33.1) GARDNER-WEBB at PRESBYTERIAN ^ ESPN+ and three-pointers per game (2nd – 2.7). A four-time Big South Player of the Week honoree in USC UPSTATE at WINTHROP ^ ESPN+ 2019-20, Curran recorded five double-doubles -- three of which were 20-point, 10-rebound efforts, FRIDAY, DEC. 18 including a 28-point, 10-rebound performance at UNC Greensboro on Dec. 21. She dropped in a HAMPTON at Rutgers BTN+ career-high 31 points at N.C. Central on Nov. 24, and grabbed a season-high 13 rebounds against USC UPSTATE at WINTHROP ^ ESPN+ Presbyterian on Jan. 21. In league contests last season, Curran averaged 16.5 points (4th in the conference), 7.1 boards (9th) and made 36.4 percent from the three-point arc (third) while averaging SATURDAY, DEC. 19 2.6 treys per Big South game (2nd). UNC ASHEVILLE at HIGH POINT ^ ESPN+ Howard at LONGWOOD ^ ESPN+ NEW ADDITIONS Big South women’s basketball features three new head coaches this season -- the most in the SUNDAY, DEC. 20 conference since three newcomers in 2018-19. Taking over this season are HONEY BROWN (UNC South Carolina State at CAMPBELL ^ ESPN+ Asheville), BECKY BURKE (USC Upstate) and SEMEKA RANDALL LAY (Winthrop). Both Burke and UNC ASHEVILLE at HIGH POINT ^ ESPN+ GARDNER-WEBB at Vanderbilt SEC+ Randall Lay bring prior head coaching experience to their squads. While Brown is a first-time head coach, she spent the last eight seasons with the Bulldog prorgam -- the last two as Associ- Key: ate Head Coach. ^ ESPN+ - Big South Network broadcast on ESPN+ SEC+ - SEC Network Plus ANOTHER POWER 5 BITES THE DUST BTN+ - Big South Network Plus ACCNX - ACC Network Extra The Big South collected a win over a Power 5 program for the sixth consecutive season in 2019-20 when Hampton opened its year with a 65-61 win at Alabama. The league has posted Power 5 vic- tories in nine of the last 11 years with 13 total in that span. Since 2010, the Big South has defeated Penn State (twice), Wake Forest, , Auburn, Clemson (twice), Mississippi State, Purdue, Florida (twice), Virginia and Alabama.

20 ON MY MIND The Big South will again have a 20-game double round-robin regular-season conference schedule in 2020-21, a format previously used for three seasons from 2013-16 before returning in 2019-20. During this format, four different outright champions emerged -- High Point (2013-14), Liberty (2014-15), UNC Asheville (2015-16) and Campbell (2019-20). The best league record during that time was 19-1 (Liberty), followed by 16-4 (High Point, Asheville, Campbell).

TRIPLE-DOUBLE TRA’DAYJA Longwood’s TRA’DAYJA SMITH is among the 20 preseason national candidates for the NANCY LIEBERMAN AWARD, which recognizes the top point guard in women’s basketball. Smith is the first Big South player to receive this honor since Winthrop’s DEQUESHA McCLANAHAN in 2014 and second overall. Last season, Smith recorded the Big South’s first triple-double since 2013-14 with her 12-point, 10-rebound, 10-assist performance in the Lancers’ 84-64 victory over Charleston Southern on Jan. 9. The Big South’s previous triple-double was by Coastal Carolina’s ANGELICA HENRY against CSU in the 2014 conference tournament. Smith’s triple-double against the Bucs was the first in a league game since High Point’s CHEYENNE PARKER at Winthrop on Jan. 28, 2012.

McMAKIN BUCKETS Longwood sophomore guard and 2019-20 Big South Freshman of the Year KYLA McMAKIN led the conference in scoring last season with 18.8 points, the first frosh to finish atop the league’s scoring chart since Liberty’s DEVON BROWN in 2009-10 (17.3 points). McMakin’s league-leading 565 overall points in 2019-20 were the third-most by a Big South freshman in conference history, behind High Point’s KAYLAH KEYS (583 in 2013-14) and Liberty’s ELENA KISSELEVA (648 in 1996-97).

I’LL TAKE SCORING FOR 1,000 PLEASE, ALEX For the second-straight year, the Big South does not have an active member of the league’s Miscelleanous Statistics 1,000-point club entering the season, as Hampton’s LAREN VanARSDALE is the Big South’s active GAMES WITH 20-OR-MORE POINTS career scorer with 912 points. With that, the following five players are approaching the milestone Player 20-24 25-29 30+ Total -- three of which are juniors: Skyler Curran, HPU 1 1 2 Nadiria Evans, AVL 1 1 2 948 Nadiria Evans, UNC Asheville, Sr. Lauren Bevis, GWU 1 1 912 Laren VanArsdale, Hampton, Jr. Taya Bolden, CU 1 1 801 Skylar Curren High Point, Jr. M. Riley follows Taya Bolden, CU 3 3 with 639 career caroms. The Panthers bested the old mark of 295 that was established GAMES WITH 10-OR-MORE ASSISTS by Charleston Southern in 2011-12. High Point also averaged a Big South single-season record 10.52 Player 10-14 15-19 20+ Total three-pointers per game last season, bettering CSU’s old mark of 9.22 from 2011-12.

THE FISHER KING Campbell fifth-year head coach RONNY FISHER begins his 13th overall year in the Big South in 2020-21, and is fourth in league history with 110 conference wins and fifth in overall victories with 179. He is one of three head coaches in league history with multiple postseason wins -- joining Big South Hall of Famer CHARLENE CURTIS of Radford (two WNIT wins) and CAREY GREEN of former member Liberty (two NCAA Tournament wins) on the list. Fisher, who coached at Presbyterian from 2008-16, is the second coach in league history to coach two Big South programs, is also the second to be voted Big South Coach of the Year at two different league members (2012-13 at Presbyterian; 2016-17 and 2019-20 at Campbell).

THE Mc-WIN Radford head coach MIKE McGUIRE is just the second coach in Big South history to amass at least 24 overall wins in three consecutive seasons, as well as three-straight years with 15+ Big South vic- tories. He joins CAREY GREEN of Liberty, who accomplished the 24-win feat twice from 2002-06 and 2007-10, and tallied five consecutive 15-plus Big South win seasons from 2011-16. Meanwhile, McGuire needs seven conference triumphs to become the sixth in league annals with 100 Big South wins, and 17 overall victories to become the eighth to reach the 150 threshold.

BACK TO THE FUTURE The 2021 Hercules Tires Big South Women’s Basketball Championship format will still be played on campus, but will not utilize the double-pod hosting bracket that was first implemented in 2018-19 due to financial impacts and budget efficiencies caused by COVID-19. The 2020 event was can- celed following the first round of competition because of the pandemic. This March, first found games will be hosted by the No. 6, 7 and 8 seeds, with the No. 1 seed hosting both the quarterfinals and semifinals. The highest remaining seed will host the Championship game.

HERCULES TIRES BIG SOUTH CHAMPIONSHIP MOVING TO CHARLOTTE IN 2022 The Big South announced on Nov. 19, 2019 that the men’s and women’s Conference Tournament Championships will move to Bojangles’ Coliseum in the league’s home city of Charlotte, N.C. The facility marks the league’s first neutral site for its marquee basketball events since 2003 and just the fifth time overall in the conference’s 37-year history. The original intention was to host the event for three years from 2021-23, but was pushed back to 2022 to allow for budget efficiences for the conference and membership this year due to the financial impact of COVID-19 that was experienced in the spring.
