All rights reserved. 06-13-BR-11-IL-481-JA Tel: 03-9254040 Welcome Letter Dear Colleagues and Friends, On behalf of the Organizing Committee of the 22nd International Congress of the Israel Society of Anesthesiologists, it is a great honor and pleasure to welcome you to Tel Aviv. The aim of this congress is to foster an exchange of ideas in the wide and evolving panorama of Anesthesiology. Hopefully we will provide a forum to advance ideas on education, research and innovation in Anesthesiology, Critical Care and Pain Management. The scope of our program ranges from basic science and pharmacology to sub-specialty clinical management; from managing operating rooms and anesthesia information systems to providing anesthesia and critical care in remote locations (not only within hospitals but also in the battlefield, in prehospital care and in the emergency room). We hope that this exchange of ideas takes place not only in the formal context of lectures, refresher courses, workshops and scientific posters, but also in networking in the exhibition hall, in the coffee breaks and in the varied social events. This will be the mark of a truly successful congress. This year, the International Congress of the Israel Society of Anesthesiologists is being held in a much larger venue than ever before. This allows us to expand our program of lectures and workshops which in turn expresses the broadening range of interests and activities of Israel’s Anesthesia community. I would like to single out in particular the varied workshop program in ultrasound guided regional anesthesia and vascular access, which we hope will raise the abilities of the Israeli anesthesiologist in these fields. In addition to the two traditional plenary lectures which honor the memory of two of the founding fathers of modern Israeli Anesthesia, Terry Davidson and Seymour Hoffman, we have added a third plenary session in memory of David Niv who was tragically murdered in the prime of his life. We are honored that these lectures will be presented by Steven Shafer, Alex Evers and Allan Basbaum respectively. These lecturers are joined by more than 60 faculty members from around the world who will participate in the scientific program; all of whom are clinicians, researchers and academic leaders of the highest international renown. During the meeting over 100 original scientific abstracts will be presented and the best original posters will be awarded with prizes. The best original abstract by a resident will be awarded the Morris Gertel Memorial Research Prize. This year’s scientific program is the largest ever held in Israel. The lecture program is divided into three parallel halls consisting of 144 lectures in panels, refresher courses and plenary sessions. In addition, we have two parallel halls of workshops, tutorials and poster walkabouts. In recognition of the scope of our scientific content and the caliber of our local and international faculty, we have been awarded 18 European CME credits by the by the European Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (EACCME). In addition to the stimulating scientific program, we will offer a unique opportunity to visit the Eretz Israel Museum for our congress event where we will be guided through the history of our land and will enjoy the performance of a leading Israeli harpist. With the unique blend of science and culture we hope that each of you will return to our next International Congress in 2014. Best wishes.
