2. Executive Reports

 2.1 – Presidents Report

25 teams represented the Keilor football club every weekend in 2017. Along with our Auskick program, this resulted in over 800 registered members of our club. What an amazing number to be very proud of.

Auskick

Friday nights were extremely successful for the Auskick group with again over 200 registered boys & girls. Congratulations and thank you to Billy Allwood and all the Auskick coaches on a fantastic season.

Juniors

A significant change in 2017, as the junior age groups changed from evens to odds and we had four U9’s teams, four U11’s teams, three U13’s teams, three U15’s teams, three U17’s teams, along with three junior girls teams being an U12, U15 and U18 team. 20 junior teams represented our football club, which is simply an outstanding result. This would not be possible without Andrew McDonald as Junior President, the year level co-ordinators, along with the coaches and Team Managers etc. Well done to everyone involved in our junior football program.

Sponsorship

Returning sponsors is always a good sign of a healthy club. Sam Barbuto and Sandy Matheson worked extremely hard all year to secure new and engage with existing corporate partners. I would like to thank all our corporate partners for their financial support and continued commitment to the Keilor Football Club. We are very grateful to have such a fantastic group of corporate partners.

House and Social

2017 again produced a very full calendar of very successful functions with the highlights being the two business lunches with James Hird & Tony Locket the headline acts, along with another hugely successful Ladies lunch. The canteens at Keilor and Green Gully both produced great results and excellent service. The success of all the house and social functions is a credit to Corey Wilkes, Anne-Maree Kliman, Donna Wiffin & Danica James.

Finance

Managing the finances of our club is as big a job as we have, due to the size of our football club. Ray Sheridan again has done an excellent job in managing this area of our club, which I thank him sincerely for.

Senior Football

The Keilor Football Club this year was the only club in the EDFL to field a side in all 5 senior competitions, which shows the strength of our great club. The seniors finished 5th, two games outside the 4 after an interrupted season.

2.1 – Presidents Report(Con’t)

The Reserves made the finals again, but lost in the preliminary final. Our Thirds, were severely affected with numbers due to injuries and unavailability in the seniors and reserves. Our U19’s finished 2nd on the ladder, but lost the preliminary final in extra time. Our senior women in their inaugural season finished on top of the ladder undefeated and subsequently went on to win our first ever senior women’s premiership which is an amazing result. The smooth transition into our club of our first senior women’s team is something we all should be very proud of and this group are now challenged with the task of creating the same professional and successful culture that we have through our senior men and junior structures. Thank you to all our senior coaches led by Mick McGuane for again doing an outstanding job in managing our senior teams. Our Team Managers and senior trainers again did a fantastic job and look after our playing group incredibly well.

Thank you to Shaun Morris, Paul Barbuto and Warren Grunden for their significant contributions for managing the smooth running of the senior side of our club.

Thank you

In my first year as president at the Keilor Football Club I could not be prouder and thankful to all of the executive committee for their contribution, support, hard work and professionalism. They and all at the club have made the transition into my first year in this role as easy as I could have hoped, so thank you to all.

Volunteers, players, coaches, support staff and sponsors are the heartbeat of the Keilor Football Club. We should all be very proud of our achievements on and off the field in season 2017. Our 141st year as the Keilor Football Club

Regards,

Craig Hill

President of the Keilor Football Club

2. Executive Reports  2.2 – Treasurer Report

To all Executive and members of the Keilor Football club, I present the Annual Treasures report and financials for 2017 season being from 1 Oct 2016 to 30 September 2017.

I would like to thank the Executive and everyone associated with the Keilor Football Club for their support in my role as Treasurer of the Keilor Football Club.

Season 2017 has seen the club have an income of $715,686 and operating expenses of $655,085 and generate a profit of $60,696 which is up on 2016 profit of $11,880.38 which is a fantastic result. This was assisted by the introduction of the salary cap, additional business lunch function and tight financial control. One item to note is the reduction in distribution from the Sports Club from 2016 which is due to not having the Good Friday game at Keilor and the introduction of infrastructure fund with the Sports Club retaining 10% of the allocation for future expansion/upgrades.

The Exec still has some tough financial decisions and is preparing a strategy to enable sound financial management of the club to continue.

On personal note I’d like to thank all those who assisted me throughout the year including, Maz Long, Marita Tobin and Gareth Hunt

Thank You

Ray Sheridan

 2.3 – Secretary/Registrar Report

What a learning curve 2017 has been! Having been heavily involved as Registrar previously, laid the ground work for the busy and relentless task as Secretary.

The direct working with council and the EDFL on a different level came thick and fast – we are very fortunate that we have a good and sustained relationship with both organisations. The Brimbank council have been very supportive to the club given our large number of teams (25 in total) and the need to work closely with them is has been paramount. The growth in women’s/girls football in particular has seen our numbers bursting at the seams – the constant battle however is grounds – both for training and playing. Along with grounds the council are being reminded that training areas without change facilities and toilets especially for our female teams is not acceptable – this is an ongoing concern.

As Registrar I owe a great deal of thanks to Tony O’Kearney, Tracey McKenzie, Vanessa Nappi, Che Higgs and Suzanne Paton for their hands on assistance around registration, fees, coaching & WWC requirements. Our number of teams and growth are covered in other reports however the need for clubs to be vigilant of correct documentation especially around junior players and club volunteers is a big task in club as large as Keilor. We are very fortunate that we have a wonderful parent base at Keilor and this assists those of us club officials in maintaining our club records and standards. Andrew and Warren’s support is also be acknowledged.

To Craig and the entire Exec – thank you for all the support around both roles and I look forward heading into 2018 much wiser. Keilor FC is a leading club due to the hard work of all involved at all levels.

 2.4 – Junior Report Junior Report - Keilor Football Club 2017

As the season commenced, we saw the net junior numbers increase by 29 players from 2016. There was a total of 436 players in 2017 up from 407 in 2016. This occurred while retaining the same number of teams. The strength of the club is building momentum from the U9s (+9 players) and the U11s (+10 players). Steven Long also put in considerable work preseason to build up U13s by +7 players – traditionally a very difficult age group to attract. Our three girls teams collectively increased numbers by 10 – the growth here is greatly built up and maintained by the efforts of Warren Grunden. The only numbers that declined were our 15 & 17 boys, partly due to the age change to odd numbered age groups for the older boys. As a club we are still held in very high regard. The numbers above are net numbers - so even with some players dropping away from the club – we are still in a net growth phase across most age groups. I anticipate that in 2020 – we will be up to a total of 500 Junior players with the strengthening of our boys program and the growing development of female football.

During the season, it was another positive year overall. Ten of the sixteen junior sides made finals – but more importantly every side had at least 3 wins at minimum for the season. Over the last couple of seasons, there were a couple of sides that had only one win in grading.

From a Junior President perspective, my first note of thanks is to all the Volunteers. With out all the parents and helpers through the season, the club could simply not function. Some special mentions to my key support team, that being the level coordinators. You each put in an enormous amount of time behind the scenes. Thanks again to you all, you do an amazing job. Team Managers & Coaches – you all have the toughest job - looking after our players on and off the field each and every week. You are truly the unsung heroes of the club and I thank you for that.

I would like to take a moment to note that I get a lot of feedback from other leagues & clubs hearing about separation between Juniors & Seniors and that there is a disconnect between the two. I would like to thank the entire Executive not only for your support to maintain Juniors, but also in the collective focus to build, foster and further develop the Junior Program at Keilor.

Under 9s The Under 9 program really settled this year with four well-established sides. Our numbers increased by 10 to our maximum (internal) of 52 players. As a once off and in order to develop some of the older U9s, we offered a try out session for those that wanted to play up on U11s. The four positions on offer were highly prized and 12 boys tried out for the 4 positions. This year – we continued with the naming of the four sides after the 2015 draftees to the AFL: Cavka, Ellis, Ahern & Laverde. Like most age levels this year, the sides pretty much remained the same. The program was again successful. Without ladders and scoreboards, the emphasis remains primarily on skill development. Although there are no scoreboards, every one of the players knows what the score it. Not only has this age level been a great development for our juniors leading into U11 competition football. It is also a valuable learning step for our coaches to develop.

Thanks to John Tate for stepping up into a Coaching role this year along with his U19s commitment. Billy Allwood in addition to overseeing Auskick was a returning coach, along with Merryn Auld and Alex Adrianopoulos, thank you. One area that seemed to work well was to pair up the teams and have an option for their preferred training night. Two teams trained on Wednesday and two on Thursday.

To all the parents of U9s and especially the Team Managers - the group ran extremely well and this is due to the effort of you all. Under 9s Co-ordinator – thank you to Suzanne Paton for coordinating the Under 9s this year

Under 11s After growing U11s back from the low of 2 sides in 2014, it was one of our objectives to get back to 4 sides. We grew to 3 sides in 2015 and 4 sides in 2016. I am very pleased that we achieved back to full capacity in 2017 with 96 (4 x 24) in 2017. This age group is still primarily & fundamentally a development year.

2. Executive Reports  2.4 – Junior Report (con’t) It was exciting to see these groups continue to learn and develop throughout the year and most of all enjoy their football.

Mick McGuane lead the Division 1 side again. After winning the flag in 2016, they were seen as the team to beat in 2017. The season started off a little rocky with a few losses, most notably a very strong Strathmore. The season continued, but after mid season, the boys started to string together some positive football and finished the season 2nd on the ladder. Heading into finals, they played very well to get to the Grand Final. However, unlike 2016, 2017 was not to be their year. As per the clubs ethos in Juniors – ‘Development’ – this was truly achieved through the season.

Bobby Devic returned also with his side and after a strong showing in 2016, this team was re-graded up to Division 3. Bobby took on the challenge with a positive attitude wanting to ensure that we push and develop the boys. The year turned out to be a roller coaster of ups and downs, but again the focus is development. In the end, the team did really well to finish 4th and play in the first week of finals. The team worked hard all season, but ended in week 1 of finals. Great work for the season 11/3s!

Darren Milburn took up the reigns of the 3rd side and after some shuffling of divisions by the EDFL, Darren put his hand up to take on what became the Division 6 side. This was a struggle for most of the year as the majority of our boys in this team were still bottom age. But Darren and the boys persisted through the season and ended up with a 5 /7 win / loss ratio which was a real positive. The boys enjoyed their football and finished 5th just missing out on finals.

Darren Brennan returned to coach the 4th side this year. After winning the flag last year, some of the boys were pushed up a division to ensure continual development. Although this side also had most of our U9s that were promoted – they eventually settled after grading in Division 7 (one up from 2016). The team had a slow start to the year and were really out of their division. They had a total of 3 wins for the year and ended up in 6th on the ladder. Well done to all Under 11s.

U11s Coordinator – Thanks to Che Higgs who did a wonderful jobs in setting up and supporting the Under11s

Under 13s Off the back of a critical 2016 in Under 12’s, players born in 2004 and 2005 stayed together in 2017 to Under 13’s. With a very low base of only 57 eligible players (at the end of 2016), we planned a proactive off-season, and setup 4 x Summer Clinics from November through January. These were strongly supported by our Senior players/leaders (Dean Galea, Curtis Taylor, Luke Cartelli, Guy Barbuto, Dylan Joyce, and Kane Barbuto) as well as 3 of our AFL stars (Nick O'Kearney, Jayden Laverde, and Daniel Venables). The result was nearly 50 players kicking the footy over the summer, and 12 new players attended as well. My sincere thanks to all who helped throughout, as the Summer Clinics were a great success. In the end, the pre-season netted 17 new Under 13 players and 2 returning from a gap year. Factoring in some mid-season player movements, we ended up with 64 players (plus the ad hoc and very welcomed support of our two mainstays in Montana Ham and Sarah Grunden). When fielding 3 teams, from a numbers perspective, this was pretty close to perfect.

Steven Long coached our first team in Under 13 Division 1. After 2 great wins in the grading games, we put ourselves behind the 8-ball losing 3 of the next 4 games. With 6 rounds remaining, we were 1 game and percentage outside of the finals race, with a tough draw ahead. We had a mini crisis meeting to discuss our extremely poor goal kicking percentage, and we calculated that we needed 4 wins (at a minimum) to be any chance of finals. What then transpired was a really selfless brand of footy which resulted in a winning streak to be proud of. We won the last 6 games, including a fantastic victory against Strathmore, who have been virtually undefeated in this age group since 2014. Finishing 3rd, we won our first final, extending our winning streak to 7 games. Unfortunately our run ended 15 minutes short of a Grand Final as scores were level at 3/4 time in the Preliminary Final. So our run was stopped by the eventual premier (Maribyrnong Park), but the year was a tremendous success, as we won 12 of 18 games, beat every other team at least once, and we developed a genuinely exciting brand of footy along the way.

Paul Perillo coached our second team in Under 13 Division 4. After losing both grading games, they secured some impressive victories throughout the year. Unfortunately they also struggled with consistency, and didn’t manage to string consecutive wins together at any stage. In the end they finished 5th (just outside the final 4) having won 7 games and losing 9 (including 4 narrow losses). It was a really competitive year, albeit tough at times against the 1st teams from East Keilor, Westmeadows, and Keilor Park.

2. Executive Reports  2.4 – Junior Report (con’t)

Ian Boyce coached our third team in Under 13 Division 7. After losing both grading games in Division 6, they had a very competitive year, ironically without many close games. On 3 separate occasions they won 3 games in a row, and ended with 9 wins from 14 games in the regular season. With a 2-week finals series in Division 7 anything is possible, and as both top sides lost in week 1, they played Coburg Districts in the Grand Final (3rd vs 4th). Despite beating them convincingly on all 3 occasions in the home and away, they lost the Grand Final to an opponent that fielded 8 of their best Under 11 players. Even so, it was an amazing achievement for our boys to make the Grand Final, and they should be very proud.

As always, we express our gratitude to our Under 13 officials and families for all your voluntary support. In addition, we thank both Vanessa Nappi and Andrew McDonald for your important coordination activities, as well as your unwavering trust and support of this group over the last 24 months.

Under 15s

Rob Stafrace returned as Division 1 Coach and picked up the season where they left off last year (a Premiership). The boys played well all year only dropping one surprise loss in round 10 to a rough Craigieburn. The boys recovered later in after this and steamed towards the finals. Ending up on top of the ladder, finals came and it was not easy. Keilor beat Aberfeldie in week 1 by 2 points to earn a week off and into the Grand Final. Aberfeldie went away and then came back

 2.4 – Junior Report (con’t) the week after to face our boys after pushing out Craigieburn in the Preliminary Final. The final was one of the best junior games I have observed. Looking down and out mid way through the 3rd quarter, the boys lifted and worked to re- instate Keilor as premiers for Divison1 Under 15s in 2017. They kept Aberfeldie scoreless in the last quarter. Well done Blues - a phenomenal effort to win back-to-back Division 1 flags

We welcomed Leigh Coles to junior coaching this year and he slotted straight into the most difficult role in Keilor Juniors. Leigh took the lead of the Division 2 side for the season. Continual lobbying of the EDFL to move our boys to Division 3 where we thought they should be, fell on deaf ears. However, in the face of all adversity, Leigh led this team with a very positive outlook. Although the season proper started out with significant losses, Leigh was able to keep the boys focused on their game and development. With only one win up to round 7, the boys worked together in the face of all “firsts” sides from other clubs to end the season with a total of 5 wins. The efforts, courage and positive nature of this team were just as rewarding and endearing as the division 1 wins in my mind. This team demonstrated the true spirit of Keilor Football Club with their endeavour throughout the year – well done.

Mark Lake led the third side in Division 5. This team had a very competitive year with close games and traditional battles with Aberfeldie, losing significantly in round 2, coming back and beating them in round 10 . The team finished the season 2nd on the ladder below Aberfeldie (top) & Strathmore (third). Playing Strathmore in week 1 of finals, to go straight in the Grand Final. The game was tight and the boys won to proceed by 11 points in the dying minutes. The boys fought well to get to the Grand Final, but on the day, 2 of three Aberfeldie players dominated and our boys were not able to match them. It was a positive year for the boys to experience a positive number of wins and some competitive finals.

Dave Bentley led the Division 1 Boys this year. Dave did a great job with the changing dynamics of this age group. With the age realignment, the team was depleted with TAC rep players having their priorities there. Competition was tough and with the changing group, it was hard for Dave and the support crew to get stability. Round 8 saw an emphatic victory over Hillside, this seemed to give the boys a lift and provide a positive outlook. The boys continued to battle through the season and with two games not going our way by one and four points in the 3rd quarter of the season, the team ended up 5th on the ladder with 5 wins. A tough year for the Division1 boys – but again they always did their best and presented Keilor in a positive manner.

Adrian Minniti took the helm of the Division 3 side this year. It was great to have a young player come back and coach after his stint in U11s a few years ago. This group of boys fought hard all season and managed to end the season in 4th spot with a 7 & 6 result getting into the finals. This was a fantastic result for the boys and Adrian. Against all odd though, they took it even further. They pushed aside 3rd (East Sunbury) in the first semi final and then accounted for the top of the table and undefeated for the season Westmeadows in the Preliminary Final. They met Northern Saints in the

Thanks to Vic Mazzone who again stepped up to lead the Division 4 side this year. The year was a best described as a “mixed bag” this season. Although it is thought that they were playing a division above their level. In essence it was more of a case that there was a real mixed group between the division 4 & division 5. The season resulted in winning 7 and losing 6 to finish 3rd on the ladder and going into finals. Unfortunately, the boys were not able to get across the line against Roxburgh Park in the knock out semi-final 2. A great season of development for these boys!

Moving forward into 2018, we are excited about the Junior programs at Keilor and the strength of our club. We have already closed coaching applications and have started the interview process. I am really happy to say that we are not short of applicants for 2018. We are looking to strengthen the coaching coordinating role in order to provide direct support & guidance to our coaching team. Retention and building is again the focus for 2018 – I hope to have an increase in team numbers(3) not only from the developing girls program , but also the ground work that was planted a few years ago and now resulting to grow back to 4 U13s Registration Day for Juniors will be Sunday 4th February. One final note, it is a wonderful feeling to be a part of this great club, I am so privileged to work with so many wonderful volunteers.

Thank you for the privilege to serve.

 2.5 – Womens/Girls Report

The 2017 season saw female football continue to grow with the launch of our inaugural Senior Women’s team and one that will not be easily forgotten. The final chapter in Keilor providing the complete pathway, affording young girls and women the opportunity to play AFL Football reached the last hurdle. There was no barrier that we did not surpass.

Senior Women

The appointment of Emma Kerry as the Senior Women’s coach in our inaugural season proved to be pivotal in undertaking the next step in the development of our female football programme. It was Emma’s professionalism and commitment to the Club that saw expectations set early that formed the foundations that led to the success that unfolded.

In a display of shear dominance the Ladies destroyed all teams that came before them with an average winning margin of 133 points and Premiers and Champions for 2017. It is worth noting that team included 4 of our Under 18 girls from 2016 and a group of largely dedicated athletes that were new to the game.

Led on the field by Captain Emily Law, the team grew from strength to strength. Sarah Wright winning the EDFL/WRFL vote count with Brooke Todero named as the leading goal kicker was indicative of the teams efforts. A stellar season would not have transpired if not for the support of the Football Club Executive, Volunteers, Assistant Coach – Mick McLean, Vice President and Team Manager Anne-Maree Kliman, Female Football Operations – Kevin O’Reilly and the Club’s head trainer John Pace.

Auskick - Girls

The all girls group championed and coached by Jessie Cameron saw 30 girls participate, providing a foundation for future participation and success. Jessie is to be commended in providing leadership given she was part of the Keilor U18’s and a participant. Thanks to Billy Alwood and his assistance.

Under 12 - Girls

David Busuttil undertook the challenge of 24 girls, many new to the game and who were learning the basic craft of what AFL football is. Whilst success came early the group were challenged by other teams dominated with top age players. Ultimately the success of the team is judged by their efforts week in, week out with ladder position irrelevant.

Under 15 - Girls

Paul Heard undertook the challenge of the U15 girls in what has proved to be the most competitive of competitions in EDFL female football. Round 1 saw a narrow loss by 3 points in a grading game to Westmeadows. From that point it was onwards and upwards with the team undefeated in the regular season with Premiership success against Westmeadows by 12 points in a tough contest.

Under 18 – Girls

The experienced John ELLIS headed into the season as a first timer to female football. With a raft of players at the Western Jets and Calder Cannons, John’s experience, patience, resilience come to the forefront and guiding the team to a successful year. The girls finished 3rd on the ladder with a preliminary final loss to Pascoe Vale who were defeated in the GF by eventual premiers Sunbury.

 3.1 – Premier Division - Mick McGuane

2017 was as much frustrating as it was exciting. At no stage were we able to get our best team on the ground in an attempt to defend our premiership title.

Season ending injuries to Michael Tanner and new recruit Sam Hooper before a ball was bounced was a tell tale sign of what may lay ahead. It didn't get any better as Luke McGuane was diagnosed with chronic fatigue in Rd 1, we lost Damian Cavka who succumbed to a recurrence of his foot injury in Rd 5, lost Jordy Grainger to a serious ankle injury in Rd 6, Sam Willatt an ACL, Eamon Ogden to a shoulder injury missing 7 weeks and Nash Holmes missed 13 weeks through a VFL injury are examples of how all impacted on the team at different stages of the year.

The upside was it created opportunities to younger players to be exposed to premier league footy and the psychological game of being hunted each week due the success of the year before. To play 5 under 19 young men was really exciting. To see James Bailey, David Tonkich, Ben McManus, Clayton Bonello and Joel Sadler all represent our senior team is a sign of great things to come. We played 42 players at senior level for the season.

Finishing 5th and NOT playing finals has cut to the core of all of us and I have the faith in the group to rediscover the hunger that's required to launch an assault in 2018.

This year it was left to too few. Andrew Browne, Kane Barbuto, Dean Galea, Jason Williams, Ryan Hards and Jamie Papalia all shouldered far too much responsibility for us to win games this year. The load must be spread for deeper than this. Some of our better players, and they know who they are, clearly underperformed for various reasons. Preparation, attitude, fitness, complacency and injury are all challenges one must overcome if he is to play at his best which in turn clearly helps the team win games of footy. Overall we didn't live up to our preseason expectations and that's very disappointing. We must live with that. Preseason training is our time that we must get to work. Even though it wasn't the year we imagined, I still need to thank many people for the year we had.

The executive led superbly by Craig Hill ; Shaun, Paul, Hannah, Marita in footy ops, our corporate partners, all players, all coaches Luke, Bluey, Mick Tanner or Burkey, Joel, Burnsey, and Tatey ; Mark Opar as runner and if it wasn't him it was Drew Elliott, Matt Thornley or Leigh Peters ; our Match day board men in Gareth Hunt or Shaun Morris ; Paul Gluschenko and Elise doing stats ; all team managers ; our magnificent trainers led by John Pace, who are such an integral part of our club ; Rickets for all things training and match day, all need to be commended for their tireless and committed work.

2018 is now an immediate focus. We need to be single minded with our approach. We need to prepare and to dare to be the best again. It just doesn't happen. This year was proof of that.

2017 we got knocked down 2018 can we must get up and rise again. That's the challenge and I believe we are up for it.

Preseason starts on Wednesday 22nd of November. Let's get to work

Another enjoyable year to be associated with the Reserves side. Whilst we did not achieve the heights of the previous two seasons I’m proud of the way the boys went about it week in week out. With some hard work over the preseason and the inclusion of some talented U19’s who were always willing to help out this season I have no doubt we can be competing for a premiership next season.

Thanks again to Mussy Reeves for being Team Manager, Jason Thorley and Michael Teal for assisting in the coaching role and Drew Elliot for his running duties. Another thanks to all the support staff and parents that helped out.

Many people have said to me that coaching the reserves is a thankless job but I must admit I look forward to hanging out with a great bunch of young men each week.

 3.3 – Senior Thirds – James Burns

Firstly, I’ll like to say thank you to the Keilor football club for appointing me as coach of our 3rd senior side. As I said a presentation night it wasn’t something that was high on my list of things to do and I admit times I felt outside my comfort zone, but I rarely say no to opportunities and have found that by doing this I have personally developed in areas that in the past I would have struggled.

Well the year was a very tough season. We had 60 players play through the 3rds, but you wouldn’t have guessed that we struggled for numbers. We had to forfeit 3 games mid to late in the season due to low numbers and had one game forfeit on us for the same reason. Most of the year was played with 17/18 players. The games where we had 22 and that was thanks to the under 19.5 for putting their hand up to play or if they had a forfeit, we were able to beat the likes of Aberfeldie by 6 goals, who ended up being runners up by 9pts behind Greenvale. So, with that all we needed was 22 players and the season would have been completely different.

I will miss a lot of names out so I would like to say thank you to everyone who made the 3rds happen this year. From Craig Hill who was in regularly in contact with me and occasionally helped on game day, to John Tate who would offered players who weren’t playing in the 19.5 and also when they had a week off or forfeits. Mick and Joel were fantastic in giving me the time to show me what is required and also with game plans etc. Joel also had same games where he named 18 with the hope some 19.5 would play in the 2nds after their game just so the 3rds had players and numbers for a game. So, thanks again Joel

Marty our team manager who just made things happen. I can’t thank him enough for what he done this year to get the required volunteers to be able to get the game started. He well and truly had the hardest job in the 3rds each week.

Finally, to the guys that played throughout the year. Even though the year wasn’t great the team/group stuck together. The vibe was great, and the morel was fantastic through all the players. So, thank you for making the year a lot better and enjoyable then it could have been.

3. Senior Coaches Reports  3.4 – Senior Women – Emma Kerry

2017 - One for the memory bank! What a great honour it was to firstly have been named as the inaugural Keilor Women's Seniors coach and secondly to proudly hold up the Premiership cup after an unblemished season. I've been around football and other team sports long enough to know that this group of women is special. I'm not going to lie, it was a daunting experience for me. Heading down to the first training session, footballs in hand, not knowing who, or if anyone, would show up! I had a 4 week old baby at home, a partner who was recovering and a training session planned fit for an AFLW team ..... Lesson #1 - let go of the past, this team is a blank canvas! Slowly and steadily the numbers grew from 12 to 18 leading into the Christmas break. Fitness sessions were thrown out the window - there is no point being the fittest on the park if you don't know how to kick a ball. The girls were meticulous, listening to every instruction, eager to learn, and willing to trust me. It was there that young under 18 player Sophie 'fazz' Fazolari stood up and impressed. In the back of lines she'd be instructing a player twice her age, going out of her way to provide guidance and reassurance. Gemma and Sarah Wright turned up with their friend Jess Atta to 'ask' if they could have a kick. The team slowly but surely was starting to form. Mothers - Emily Law, Karen Meridith, Bree Jones & Brooke Harty never missed a session, often with kids in tow. I admired them, working full time, juggling family commitments, it was finally their time. They wanted to show their kids that there are never barriers in life, just obstacles to get around or smash through! The return of pre season in Feb saw an influx of new players - before long we had 30 on the list. It was important early on that my expectations were clear - this group would form the foundations of the KFCW for generations to come. #ourbrand was created ... These women were now role models both on and off the field. The Keilor Football Club is a proud, successful and envied organisation, pulling on the red, white and blue was a privilege for these women - #keilorproud was everywhere! Out of the initial 30 about 5 had played before, mostly through our successful under 18 program. The season that unfolded was a surprise to most, undefeated and a convincing premiership win - but not me and our support staff. To see the dedication, commitment, comraderie and genuine care and empathy for one another, very few teams in sport have what this group do. I'm excited for the future to see what this group can achieve together. Their journey has only just begun! To Emily Law, our courageous leader, thank you! You are an inspiration to all. Marita, Kev, Warren - without your assistance, week in and week out, we wouldn't have achieved half of what we did. Mick and Benny - your guidance on game days was immeasurable. Pacey- I don't think there is a more loved man at Keilor, you filled in once and never left. A true passionate Keilor person! Paul - your stats are first class and enabled me to identify and prioritise areas of improvement for the girls. Anne Maree - more than a Team Manager, a mentor to me in all aspects of life. Juggling 30 women isn't easy, so thank you for your guidance and honesty. Executive - to Craig and the team a massive thank you. For treating us as equals and having the courage to try something new. Lastly thank you to all the supporters, families and friends for embracing women's footy. 2018 .... New season, new comp, same goal!
