WOMEN’S TWENTY20 FRIDAY JANUARY 29, 2016 INTERNATIONAL ACT HEET AUSTRALIA V INDIA F S LIBRARY Australia v India in Women’s T20 International Matches The first women’s Twenty20 International (T20I) match was played in 2004, at Hove in England, between England and New Zealand and was won by the visiting team. It preceded the first men’s T20I by six months. Having won its inaugural T20I the following year, against England at Taunton, Australia won its initial T20I series in 2009 when it defeated New Zealand 2-1. The first ICC women’s T20I World Cup was held in England in 2009, Australia losing to England in a semi-final. The host nation went on to win the tournament. Subsequently the Australians have a perfect record – winning tournaments in the West Indies (2010), Sri Lanka (2012) and Bangladesh (2014). Today’s match is the eleventh T20I to be played between Australia and India. The first encounter between the two countries in Australia was at Sydney in the 2008/09 season and the most recent was in Adelaide three days ago. They have also met five times in India and three at neutral venues, two of which were during women’s T20 World Cups. Summary results are shown below. Women’s T20 Internationals between Australia and India At Hurstville Oval, Sydney, October 28, 2008: AUSTRALIA 4/142 (20 overs) (S Nitschke 49, KL Rolton 44*; G Sultana 2/30 defeated INDIA 4/140 (20 overs) (MD Raj 51*, SM Naik 32) by two runs. CRICKET. England Beats N.S.W. AN EXCITING FINISH. The first international women's cricket match in Sydney was notable. Those who were present on Saturday are not likely to forget the last half-hour of glorious cricket, when the English girls snatched an exciting victory from the New South Wales side. Nor will they forget that the victory was made possible by the sporting gesture of the State's captain, Margaret Peden. New South Wales could have played a draw, but Miss Peden gave the visitors a chance by giving them 30 minutes in which to make 57 runs, and they did it. The English girls were the first to acknowledge Miss Peden's action. Excited by having achieved their first win In Australia, they said: "What a sporting declaration on the part of New South Wales. It was a wonderful match." The game was full of incident. Women were showing that they could handle a cricket ball and bat effectively, and the carefree spirit of the match was commented on.

Dastavezi(3): 40-54 For My Country: Naonalism and Female Empowerment in Pakistan Women’s Cricket Sadia Quraeshi Shepard Abstract Drawing on interviews and scenes fromFor My Country, a documentary film about Pakistan’s women’s cricket team directed by Sadia Quraeshi Shepard and Samina Quraeshi, as well as interviews with former women’s team captain Sana Mir conducted between 2012 and 2021, this paper demonstrates the patriosm and interest in subverng dominant gender norms that movate many of Pakistan’s professional female cricketers as well as the integral role that supporve male family members play in their careers. Keywords: Pakistan, women’s cricket, gender, female empowerment Film: hps://crossasia-journals.ub.uni-heidelberg.de/index.php/dasta/arcle/view/15243/14857 Introducon In Pakistan, cricket is a naonal obsession. From the mountains of the Swat Valley to the port city of Karachi, the sight of children playing impromptu cricket games on any available road or field is a familiar, ubiquitous sight. Yet cricket’s omnipresence in Pakistan’spublicspacesonlybeginstosuggestthefundamental rolethatthesportplays in daily life. In the naonal media landscape, there is a seemingly insaable hunger for cricket; games and commentary are broadcast on mulple news channels featuring former players as commentators, members of the naonal team are dominant enes in the branding and adversing industries, and Prime Minister Imran Khan is sll considered a naonal hero for captaining the Pakistan team to their 1992 World Cup tle.
