Introduction Unemployment was high in Denmark during the 1980s and 90s, reaching a record level of 12.3% in 1994. Consequently, there was a perceived need for new actions and policies in the combat of unemployment, and a law Active Labour Market Policies (ALMPs) was enacted in 1994. The instated policy marked a dramatic regime change in the intensity of active labour market policies. After the reform, unemployment has decreased signi…cantly –in 1998 the unemploy- ment rate was 6.6% and in 2002 it was 5.2%. TABLE 1. UNEMPLOYMENT IN DANISH COUNTIES (EXCL. The main push factors are lack of co-ethnics and presence of immigrants. Addi- tional push factors are lack of access to jobs, education and housing which explain why recent immigrants are attracted to large cities. Finally, placed refugees are sen- sitive to regional unemployment and some evidence of welfare seeking is presented as well. JEL classifications: J15, R15 and H0. Keywords: Location Choices, Push Factors, Immigrants. 1 Introduction It is a common international phenomenon that the immigrant population is geographically concentrated. In 1990, 63% of the foreign born population in the United States were clustered in the four most populous states, California, New York, Florida and Texas, where only 31% of the overall population lived (Zavodny 1997). -

Abstract: This paper focuses on primary education accountability as a concept and as an organizational practice in the history of Danish public education. Contemporary studies of education policy often address questions of accountability, but the manifestations of school accountability differ significantly between different national settings. Furthermore, accountability measures and practices have an impact on both the ways and means by which societies approach their educational systems. Hence there is a need to clarify the characteristics and traits connected with the concept. One way of approaching this endeavor is to turn to the history of education, because the discourse and practice of accountability incorporates numerous historical antecedents, technologies, and arguments. Based on primary as well as secondary sources this article presents the case of Denmark, analyzing the period from 1660 to the present. -

The study focused on the following: use of existing vocational guidance services (including services available through basic general education, the Youth Guidance Scheme, seccndary education, vocational training, and higher education and thrcugh Denmark's Public Employment Service and Unemployment Insurance Funds) by Denmark's youth; potential problem areas in existing vocational guidance services; and strategies for remedying those problems. It was discovered that young Danes have good access to and make substantial use of the various guidance schemes existing in and around Denmark's education and labor market services systems. The special vocational guidance needs of chronically unemployed youths and youths who either drop out of school or change course in Denmark's education system were examined in depth, and recommendations for improving the following aspects of vocational guidance services available to Denmark's youth were formulated: organization, methods, content, staff training, resources, and internationalization. -

Implementing restrictive school tobacco policies such as smoke-free-school-hours (SFSH) may have the potential to reduce smoking among Vocational Education and Training (VET) school students. To be effective, school tobacco policies that largely involve strict and consistent enforcement by both managers and teaching teaching staff must be implemented. This study investigated the attitudes towards the implementation of SFSH among the managers and teaching staff at Danish VET schools. Methods: The analyses were based on cross-sectional survey data collected with an online survey among managers and teaching staff at Danish VET schools. The data was collected from March to June 2017. Results: Managers and teaching staff (n = 571) from 71 out of 87 Danish VET schools (81.6%) took part in the survey. In the adjusted analysis, teaching staff were twice as likely as managers to have a favourable attitude towards SFSH. Furthermore, being female and of increasing age correlated with having a favourable attitude. A trend towards schools in favour of SFSH having more health promotion facilities, policy and practice, was identified. Conclusion and implications: Existing health promotion facilities and activities at the schools were associated with a favorable attitude among the management towards implementing SFSH. -

The report identifies processes and mechanisms enabling or preventing the labour market prospects of the two youth groups. The report focuses on policy measures aiming at tackling demand-side barriers to employment for the two youth groups. While available data have not made it possible to determine robust evidence of an effect (positive or negative) of the social regulation policies for the employment of vulnerable youth groups in statistical terms, the report identifies processes and mechanisms through which social regulation policies make a difference.
