External trade in goods with both groups of countries in 2017 the highest with the Osrednjeslovenska statistical region

In 2017, Slovenia's trade in goods with the EU Member States was mostly contributed by enterprises located in the Osrednjeslovenska statistical region. The exports of these enterprises amounted to 24.5% of the value of total exports to EU Member States and their imports to 43.1% of total imports from EU Member States. Enterprises located in the Osrednjeslovenska statistical region among EU Member States mostly exported to (19.4%) and to Italy (18.1%), and imported from (25.0%) and Italy (16.6%). Exports of these enterprises to EU Member States were followed by exports of enterprises located in the statistical region Jugovzhodna Slovenija (12.9%).

Enterprises from the Osrednjeslovenska statistical region were also the main contributor to Slovenia's trade in goods with non-EU countries. Their exports amounted to 30.1% of total exports to non-EU countries and imports to 42.3% of total imports from non-EU countries. Among the non-EU countries, these enterprises mostly exported to Bosnia and Herzegovina (14.0%) and (13.8%) and imported from Switzerland (16.3%) and (13.5%).

Enterprises that are part of international enterprise groups generated almost two-thirds of Slovenia’s trade in goods

Foreign-controlled enterprises (9.9% of all exporters in 2017) generated two-fifths of the total value of exports (40.6%). Slovenian international enterprises, i.e. domestically-controlled enterprises with units abroad (only 1.8% of all exporters in 2017), generated 26.1% of the total value of exports. The situation on the side of imports is similar.

In terms of the number, the most important category of enterprises that exported/imported in 2017 is domestically-controlled enterprises without units abroad (three-quarters of exporters and three-fifths of importers), which generated more than a fifth (21.5%) of total exports and a quarter (25.0%) of total imports.

More than half of the exports generated by enterprises whose export intensity is at least 75%

In Slovenia's exports in goods in 2017 the largest share in the number of enterprises (64.7% of all exporters) was represented by enterprises in which the share of exports in their turnover was less than 25%. These enterprises generated 8.1% of the total value of Slovenia’s exports.

More than half (52.1%) of the value of total exports of Slovenia was generated by enterprises whose share of exports in turnover was at least 75%. In terms of the number, however, the share of these exporters in the total number of Slovenian exporters in 2017 was low (8.3% of all exporters).
