CHAPTER II
INSTITUTION
Prambanan was built in 9th century. This temple was built by Rakai Pikatan. This
place provide a wide chance to improve the tourists’s interests. One of them is tour
guide.
Tour guides play an important role in tourism. Aside from being a liaison between
the visited attractions, the tour guide also acts as a representative or ambassador of the nation to participate in promoting Indonesian tourism because a guide on the field will immediately meet face to face with tourists. Recognizing the importance of guides in the tourism development arena in Indonesia, it is appropriate for guides to form an organization that brings together the guides. In 1971 a special tour organization was formed in the Special Region of Yogyakarta called YOGA (Yogya Guide Assocition) and has been recognized by BAPPARDA (Regional Tourism Development Agency) DIY. As the name implies, the membership status of the organization is limited to guides in Yogyakarta. To avoid the operational chaos and to create harmonious relations between guides, HPI was formed on October 5, 1988 in Palembang, South Sumatra. With decree No.63 / MUNAS / 10/1988 by the Minister of Tourism and Culture, HPI was formed.
2.1 History of the Establishment of HPI Prambanan Temple
Before the ratification of the HPI organization in 1998, Prambanan Temple was
established on September 28, 1988 as the Prambanan Temple tourist attraction. The
founder was Mr. Soebarno who later became Chair of the HPI Prambanan Temple and
Mr. Sigit Waruhantoro, who at that time served as Assistant District Head East Sleman.
On September 26, 1988 a meeting of the Prambanan guide association was held which
was attended by:

7. Some tour guides.
The number of guides at Prambanan Temple who joined the HPI was only 10 people. With limited skill, they ran scouts for domestic and foreign tourists. Demands for mastery of both technical and guiding material are really urgent. Then, they submitted a request for guiding courses, and finally the DIY Tourism Office granted the request. Guiding courses for 10 guides were carried out for 45 days from December 21, 1988 to February 21, 1989. Now, Prambanan HPI has 35 tour guides and want to continue to improve scouting services by conducting trainings and meetings. Prambanan HPI collaborates with PT. Borobudur Temple Park, Prambanan and Ratu Boko improve tourism services in the scouting area, so that they can provide the best for tourists.
