For Immediate Release December 4, 2015 to Release Highly-Anticipated Double Concept Album the Astonishing January 29Th First FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE DECEMBER 4, 2015 TO RELEASE HIGHLY-ANTICIPATED DOUBLE CONCEPT ALBUM THE ASTONISHING JANUARY 29TH FIRST SINGLE “THE GIFT OF MUSIC” STREAMING NOW YOUTUBE: https://youtu.be/CdPn1mCmqoE PRE-ORDERS AVAILABE TODAY DSP: http://flyt.it/DTTheAstonishing D2C: http://flyt.it/DTTheAstonishingStore Dream Theater, one of the most prolific and iconic progressive rock bands of the last thirty years, are set to release their eagerly awaited double concept album, The Astonishing, on January 29th. Yesterday the band premiered the album’s lead single, “The Gift of Music,” in an exclusive interview with Rolling Stone in which founding guitarist John Petrucci discussed the origins of the conceptual double album. Consisting of 34 tracks spread across 2 unique acts, The Astonishing is available now for pre-order at all DSP’s (http://flyt.it/DTTheAstonishing), with all orders accompanied by an instant grat download of “The Gift of Music,” which is currently streaming on Dream Theater’s official YouTube channel. “The Gift of Music” plus additional Dream Theater material can also be streamed here: http://flyt.it/DTTheAstonishingSP (album art and track listing attached). The Astonishing will also be available in a wide range of distinctive versions, including standard 2-CD set, 4-LP vinyl box set and a limited edition deluxe box set, all of which are currently available for pre-order at http://flyt.it/DTTheAstonishingStore. Recorded at Cove City Sound Studios in Glen Cove, New York, with John Petrucci producing, studio luminary Richard Chycki (Aerosmith, Rush) engineering/mixing and legendary arranger, composer and conductor David Campbell orchestrating, The Astonishing paints a tale of a retro-futurist post- apocalyptic dystopia ruled by medieval style feudalism. It’s a place aching for a Chosen One to rise above the noise and defeat an Empire defined by the endless drone of noise machines and the illusion of safety in bland conformity. Dream Theater will tour the U.S. in support of The Astonishing this coming spring, performing the double album in its entirety while transforming venues into immersive and interactive settings for a unique and unparalleled live experience. Full details on the U.S. tour will be announced shortly. Furthermore, Dream Theater are set to kick off a momentous European headline run which will get underway February 18th at the Palladium in London, England. The winter run will see the prog-virtuosos delivering a one-of-a-kind set in which they will be debuting The Astonishing live in its entirety for the very first time (see attached itinerary). For up-to-the-minute news and ticket information, please visit http://www.dreamtheater.net/tour. The Astonishing follows 2013’s worldwide smash album “DREAM THEATER,” which earned a second Grammy nomination for the band, topping Billboard’s “Hard Rock Albums” while simultaneously entering at #7 on the Billboard 200. The extraordinary chart position marked the group’s third consecutive top 10 debut, and also saw "DREAM THEATER" making top 5 chart debuts in Japan, Germany, Italy, Canada, Argentina, Switzerland, Holland, and Finland, as well as top 10 debuts in Denmark, Austria, and Norway, with career high debuts in the United Kingdom and Australia. Rolling Stone touted the legendary collection as “…the birth of a new era in the band’s career.” For additional news and information, please visit www.dreamtheater.net, www.facebook.com/dreamtheater, www.twitter.com/dreamtheaternet, www.youtube.com/dreamtheater, www.roadrunnerrecords.com, and www.instagram.com/DTImages. Dream Theater is: John Petrucci (guitar), John Myung (bass), James LaBrie (vocals), Jordan Rudess (keyboards and continuum) and Mike Mangini (drums). Abstract The attacks on the Norwegian government buildings and Utøya on the 22nd of July 2011 led to national mourning.

All of them equally progressive in their own way, and in some ways, share a common thread between them. But, ask any diehard prog-rock fan and I guarantee another name comes up each and every time: Gentle Giant. Although never quite attaining the same level of sales or status of celebrity as the aforementioned, Gentle Giant most certainly made a statement, left a mark and carved their names into the history books of English prog. A mixture of rock, funk, jazz, classical, and even a bit of punk, Gentle Giant was as progressive as they come—and then some. Holding down the fort for the better part of eight years was John Weathers. Although not their original drummer, it was Weathers that helped propel Gentle Giant to international fame with an interesting mix of bombastic backbeat, an ear for tuned percussion and the ability to play any time signature and style thrown his way. On my interview list from the beginning, John wasn’t an easy man to fi nd. A few Internet searches every so often didn’t turn up much until I happened to stumble across ‘Two Weeks In Pain - Under The Knife’ [http:// www.gorgg.org/UnderKnife1.htm], a twenty-fi ve-episode online diary of John’s experience in the hospital and under the care of the N.H.S.

They consist of a single head in a die-cast zinc or aluminum frame. Unlike most other drums, they have a variable definite pitch. Composers are known to write for them as tuned instruments, demanding specific pitches. Rototoms are often used to extend the tom range of a standard drum kit. They were invented by the drumhead company Remo. They can be tuned quickly by rotating the head, which sits in a threaded metal ring. Rotation raises or lowers the tension hoop relative to the rim, which increases or decreases the pitch of the drum by increasing or decreasing the tension of the drum head. Master James Holland, former percussionist of the London Philharmonic Orchestra, highly recommends them in his book "Percussion",[1] which is part of the Yehudi Menuhin Music Guides series. Rototoms are often used as a training substitute for timpani students, as they have a very similar sound, are not as loud and expensive as timpani, and do not require as much room space. A few drumming greats who used rototoms were Bill Bruford and Terry Bozzio. Roger Taylor of Duran Duran used rototoms extensively on their self titled debut album Duran Duran of 1981. Roger Taylor of Queen has used rototoms since the early 1970s most recently in the cover of "Let There Be Drums" on the Return of the Champions DVD and album.
