PHYSICAL ACTIVITY RESOURCES | NUTRITION RESOURCES | INTERNET RESOURCES California 5 a Day Be Active Resource Directory RIVERSIDE COUNTY Acknowledgements Funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Stamp Program, an equal opportunity provider and employer, through the California Nutrition Network for Healthy, Active Families. For information on the California Food Stamp Program, call (800) 952-5253. No agency or resource listed in the Directory pays for its listing. All information has been provided by the individual agency or resource and its listing here does not imply endorsement by the California Department of Health Services, Cancer Prevention and Nutrition Section, Be Active Program, or any of its directors or sponsors. The omission of any resource is just that, an omission. It does not imply any judgement of that organization or resource’s merit. California 5 a Day Be Active Resource Directory RIVERSIDE COUNTY Physical Activity Resources Nutrition Resources Internet Resources California 5 a Day Be Active Program March 2005 Welcome to the Riverside County Be Active Resource Directory We are pleased to present this, the first edition of the City of Riverside Be Active Resource Directory. It is our hope that this will prove to be a valuable tool for professionals, families and others who are dedicated to promoting health and wellness for adults, youth, and children. Included in this directory are descriptions of organizations that offer a wide variety of services and information for nutrition and physical activity. The agencies and resources listed are available to help you in your search for infor- mation. Call them. Ask them questions. Most of the community resources listed here are specific to physical activity; however, some provide other community services. THE AGENCIES AND RESOURCES ARE LISTED: • By Type of Activity • By Geographic Location • With address, telephone number, and cost information (in most cases) • A section for Internet Resources is included. This resource directory was developed to assist health professionals in making appropriate physical activity and nutrition referrals for their clients. This directory is designed to be a gateway to information and is part of our ongoing effort to share key information to facilitate physical activity program partici- pation and development. Although it does not list every physical activity resource that exists, it will help you get started. In 2006, a more comprehensive directory will be developed offering resources from 11 regions across the state of California. Communities throughout California are experimenting with innovative ways to support adults and youth in making healthier food choices, becoming more physically active, and having access to food assist- ance programs. The California 5 a Day Be Active Program administers projects that conduct health and nutrition outreach on the local level, and strive for community-wide changes in the way Califor- nians approach nutrition and physical activity. In keeping with the guidelines established by the USDA, the Be Active Program targets low-income women and their children. The Riverside Physical Activity Resource Center and 5 a Day Be Active Program have assembled this directory to move us toward our shared vision of communities that will have access to resources, healthy foods and physical activity.
