All rights reserved. 1 A Letter From The Commissioner The Indiana High School Athletic Association celebrates the opportunity to participate in the lives of young Hoosiers through the provision of education-based athletics through our member schools. It is our belief that through involvement in these activities, the future leaders of our society will be shaped. Currently in Indiana, over 160,000 students from 410 different IHSAA member schools participate in high school athletics. While the thrill of donning the colors of the local school is both honorable and exciting, the educational experience gained from this participation is paramount. There are many concepts to be learned through education-based athletics such as, self-discipline, the value of teamwork, the importance of dedication and commitment. Whether it’s the ability to deal with success or persevere through great adversity, the critical lessons learned here will last a lifetime. For an organization such as ours, integrity is of primary importance. An uncompromising adherence to the principles of fair play and impartiality form the core of our value system. Pure, wholesome, amateur, educational, inexpensive, local high school athletics has always been the objective. It is what we mean when we say…Pure Spirit. Pure Sport! Your IHSAA staff is thankful for the opportunity to serve our member schools and provide the quality of services that each of you have come to expect. On behalf of the entire IHSAA family, we spread our best wishes and trust you are looking forward to the 2014-15 school year with the same expectancy and enthusiasm as the IHSAA staff and Board of Directors. 2010-11 Men’s Basketball Guide This is IU East Indiana University East grew out of an extension established at Earlham College that was operated by Earlham and Indiana University. In 1967, the arrangement was expanded to include Purdue and Ball State universities and the extension became the Eastern Indiana Center of Earlham College. In 1969, reflecting the community’s response to this opportunity to take state university courses at home, Richmond citizens formed an association known as Eastern Indiana Community College, Inc., to raise funds for the construction of a new campus. Following a successful campaign in which they raised over $1 million, members of the community col- lege organization, with the consent of the four education institutions involved in the center, requested Indiana University to establish a regional campus in Richmond to assume responsibility for the operation. The Indiana General Assembly approved this plan, and on July 1, 1971, the East- ern Indiana Center for Earlham College became Indiana University East, the sixth campus in the Indiana University regional system. On October 3, 1972, ground was laboratories for the School of Education and the broken at the new campus site north of Richmond. School of Humanities and Social Sciences. 2020 celebration of ATHLETES THE REPUBLIC’S BARTHOLOMEW COUNTY ATHLETE OF THE YEAR SPECIAL SECTION Eric Stiles MALE ATHLETE OF THE YEAR BIG-TIME TALENT Stiles led East boys soccer to uncharted territory In describing the talent of one of the state’s top soccer players, former Columbus East coach Brad Barber points to a critical play in the first half of Eric Stiles’ last high school game. I In a scoreless semistate game against top-ranked and even- tual Class 3A state champion Zionsville, Stiles won a ball near midfield against eventual Indiana Player of the Year STORY BY Chris Freeman. Stiles TED SCHULTZ then connected on a pass to Logan Cline, PHOTOS who scored to give the BY MIKE Olympians a 1-0 lead. WOLANIN “Eric had the vision, technical ability and power to drive the ball 40 yards across the field, perfectly placing it in front of Logan Cline,” Barber said. “... I do not believe there is another player in an Indiana high school able to make that play. Eric is one of the few players in the state that can take over a game whenever he wants to.” Stiles did that plenty this season and throughout his high school career, and that has led to his selection as The Republic 2 ATHLETE OF THE YEAR SPECIAL SECTION | CELEBRATION OF ATHLETES 2020 Bartholomew County Male Athlete of the Year. The male and female winners typically are honored at The Republic’s Athlete of the Year Gala, but that was canceled this year because of COVID-19. Stiles led East to a dream season.

  • For Immediate Release February 6, 2020
For Immediate Release February 6, 2020 Madison, IN: Madison Consolidated School Board of Trustees approved a resolution during their monthly board meeting announcing an intent to withdraw from the Hoosier Hills Conference. Resolution 2020 - Withdraw from Hoosier Hills Conference February 5, 2020 Whereas the Board of School Trustees recognize that high school athletics is a vital part of our children’s overall educational experience and an important part of our community’s involvement and commitment to our schools, it is critical that our athletic programs have an equitable chance to be competitive throughout every season. As a founding member of the Hoosier Hills Conference (HHC), we have been and will always be proud of our time as a member. However, it has become apparent since 1980 that Madison Consolidated High School has been unable to keep pace with the enrollment gains of member schools. The following data reflects the member schools’ high school enrollment for the fall of 2019: Jeffersonville - 2,033, New Albany - 1,821, Floyd Central - 1,806, Seymour - 1,542, Columbus East - 1,497, Bedford North Lawrence - 1,486, Jennings County - 1,218, and Madison - 863. This disparity in enrollment has resulted in a competitive imbalance that can be reflected in the following overall summary of our results both within the conference as well as in IHSAA Tournament play. The purpose of any regular-season schedule is to give a positive experience to all athletes while preparing the varsity athletes for the IHSAA Tournament. The objective of the regular season schedule is to play a competitive schedule that allows for a reasonable chance for success while not dominating much smaller schools.
