REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT OFFICER

As a Development Officer, you are the main point of contact between and the volunteers and professionals in Wales who are developing paddlesport at the grassroots. Your job is to get more people – by supporting our clubs to grow and develop, assisting with publicising and organising special events, developing initiatives to encourage underrepresented groups into paddling, and working with local stakeholders to develop new venues and opportunities for paddlesport.

This is a challenging role that requires creativity, strategic thinking and amazing people skills – you’ll spend a lot of time on the road meeting with clubs and paddlers and you’ll be working with a small budget and limited time to do everything you might like to do.  Act as a point of contact for paddlesport development activities, including developing a strong working relationship with Canoe Wales-affiliated clubs and providing advice and support to clubs;  Support clubs with developing coaches and volunteers;  Lead and/or support the CEO and other staff with organisation and delivery of events to promote and develop paddlesport;  Support clubs with marketing of events on the Canoe Wales events listing and through development of their own marketing channels;  Support clubs to apply for grants;  Support clubs to improve their safeguarding systems – including advising on club policies and procedures, raising awareness about good practice, providing and signposting training opportunities, and ensuring all clubs appoint a trained Club Safeguarding Officer;  Work with clubs to identify new venues for as needed, with support from the Places to Manager;

 Work closely with other members of the development team and the CEO to develop new activities/initiatives and implement a national strategy for development;  Represent Canoe Wales at meetings as required;  Uphold the organisational values of Canoe Wales and contribute to the welfare of the staff team.  Carry out any other duties as appropriate to the post and the needs of Canoe Wales.

Person specification

This role is for someone who is creative, hard-working and great at communicating – with lots of great ideas for how to get people paddling and the organisational and people-skills needed to make them happen. You need to be extremely adaptable, willing to travel and work evenings/weekends, and comfortable managing your own schedule and workplan. You also need to be comfortable working on your own out of your home office with remote support from the CEO and the other members of your team.

Essential Desirable

A university degree in Sport Any personal Management or a related field or performance award; at least 3 years of experience working in sport development. Any British Canoeing coaching or leadership qualification;

QUALIFICATIONS Completion of the Safeguarding and Protecting Children and Time to Listen courses;

Completion of the British Canoeing Event Safety course.
