DONATION Held on CAMP 21st November 2019 With a brief introduction

Acknowledgement

The NSS Unit of RKMGEC owes much debt to the Office of the Principal and the Registrar’s Office for their relentless assistance and to the Principal of RKMGEC in particular, who had constantly encouraged us and gave his valuable insights in organizing the Blood Donation Camp as the maiden activity of the NSS Unit. The NSS Unit feels obliged to acknowledge the Vendors who supplies regular commodities to the Hostels of RKMGEC for supporting and sponsoring the whole event of BDC with their splendid gesture of generosity. The NSS Unit of RKMGEC also owes much to the senior faculties for their constant support and guidance and to the faculty members of the whole RKMGEC for their constant cheer and encouragement. And lastly, the beloved students, who have been the central part of all these activities, and their voluntary involvement either through their organizing skill or by active participation into the BDC, which made it a grand success really demands our indebtedness to them. Without these the event could not have been successful in its maiden endeavour, is in fact beyond any reservation.

Report of the BDC held on 21.11.2019

The organization of a BDC under the aegis of the NSS Unit of RKMGEC was conceptualized in an NSS Committee meeting held on 14.11.2019, followed by a request received from the doctors of the Deben Mahato Sadar Hospital, Purulia at the advent of an ongoing blood supply crisis in the Purulia Blood Bank. The NSS Unit of RKMGEC, found this opportunity as a privilege to open its chapter into its journey ahead in service to the Nation, amidst its major regular academic activities, as envisaged into the Motto of NSS, “"Not Me But You", which reflects the essence of democratic living and upholds the need for self-less service. Keeping the grand philosophy of the NSS upfront, in this motto, which underlines on the belief that the welfare of an individual is ultimately dependent on the welfare of the society as a whole and therefore, the NSS volunteers shall strive for the well-being of the society. The tagline for the BDC was, “You don’t have to be a doctor to save lives, just donate blood.” To this, a BDC organising committee was initiated under the guidance of the NSS Unit, comprising 10 volunteers, of which 8 are chosen from among the registered students and 2 were from the Office of the Registrar, RKMGEC. The team of volunteers is in the following table –

The inaugural session began, as was orchestrated, sharp at 10.30 a.m. with a short but a very enthusiastic speech of the Principal of RKMGEC, Prof. Bibek Chakrabarti and followed by the speech of the Chief Guest of the ceremony, the BDO of Joypur. The Chief Guest, in his speech, welcomed the initiative of the NSS Unit of RKMGEC with such a generosity that touched upon the gathering of more than 100 students and the distinguished other guests and the present faculty members. He stressed upon the need for more activities like this, not only BDCs, but other such activities which will help and perhaps play an instrumental role in uplifting the general condition of the surrounding environment of the college through the engagement and active participation of our beloved students. The Guest of Honour, Shri Mahakash Chowdhury, the Inspector in Charge of the Joypur Police Station, then spoke a little about the need for such programmes quite often and shared his delight in being invited upon a ceremony with a Nobel gesture and which particularly was one of its kind in such an institution involved in imparting higher education in the most backward regions of the district. He also favoured in the tone, set right by the Chief Guest, that such initiatives be taken more and more in order to make a long-lasting impact of our services. Srimati Mamoni Mataji, the Secretary of Saradamani Mission of Bartand, the other Guest of Honour, then delivered her speech, whose Ashrama is just by the side of the RKMGEC premise and involved in rendering community services for more than 19 years, completely shouldered by her exemplary responsibility towards the downtrodden of the society and with the aid of the local government bodies. She highly praised the initiative taken by the NSS Unit of RKMGEC through its maiden activity and also shared her valuable insights, which she gathered during her service for more than 19 years, with the august gathering. She pointed out the need 7 for different awareness programmes, more than anything, to make our impacts everlasting and reminded the audience the beauty of working together, in caring through sharing. The inaugural session then followed by a brief speech of one of the Doctors attending the BDC, and then followed by a speech of Dr. Jagabandhu Shit, the Head of the Department of the Mechanical Engineering Department, Dr. Jayanta Chandra, the Head of the Electrical Engineering Department, Dr. Latibuddin Thander, the Head of the Basic Sciences & Humanities Department, Mr. Debabrata Ray, Asst. Prof. of the Basic Science & Humanities Department, and also the Programme Coordinator of the NSS Unit, and finally the ceremony was concluded by a generous vote of thanks, delivered by Mr. Santigopal Maity of Electronics and Communication Engineering Department and also the Programme Coordinator of the NSS Unit of RKMGEC.

The whole inaugural session was anchored by Mr. Santigopal Maity, the Programme Coordinator of NSS Unit of RKMGEC and who had been instrumental in making this event successful. The whole inaugural session was lasted about one hour. In the meantime, the BDC was initiated and group of 10 students first donated their blood, making the mark of the NSS Unit of RKMGEC for the first time since 2016, the year of establishment of the College.

The whole BDC received an overwhelming response from the students of the RKMGEC, across all the departments, members and non-members of the NSS Unit alike. Each student filled up a mandatory form for initial inspection of their health-related information and then examined by the two Doctors for the final go. Then they were given a queue number and they queued up patiently to donate their blood. Initially the whole BDC was assumed to be held time bound, starting at 10.30 a.m. in the morning till the 2.30 p.m. in the afternoon. However, with the overwhelming response, it continued till 5.30 p.m. in the afternoon. Such was the magnanimity of the maiden programme of the NSS Unit of RKMGEC which was enough to morally boost up the registered member and non-member students and the teachers alike to carry on the legacy of such services more and more, as often as possible!
