The Art of Braiding, Bosal I The Art of Braiding, Bosal I has over 150 full color illustrations with accompanying text explaining material preparation, use of tools, sizing, shaping and finishing the bosal, tying the mecate on the bosal and much more. The Art of Braiding, Bosal I is the1st in a series of detailed books focused on braiding the bosal and is the most comprehensive on the market today. Bunkhouse Review, July, 1999, Western Horseman "The Art of Braiding, Bosal I” “Although a horseman might not recognize Gail Hought's name, chances are he's familiar with her art prints, particularly her how-to, instructional series about , or maybe he's read one of her well-illustrated feature articles about such gear. Perhaps he has seen Hought's and braiding on display or attended one of her workshops. No matter---the full range of her talent is on display in The Art of Braiding, The Bosal, which follows her first book, The Art of Braiding, The Basics. Hought's an artist, and it shows in every page of her book. Excellent illustrations, most in color, demonstrate every step in the braiding process, from gathering the necessary tools to finishing the product. Materials, core preparation, plaiting, nose and side buttons, and heel knots are addressed, all in an easy-to-follow manner, which is somewhat difficult to do with such a complex subject. However, the difference is in the details when it comes to such work, and Hought tries to make mastering the details as simple as possible for the reader. Throughout, she features plenty of helpful hints and special notes to call your attention to potential problem areas, and both hints and notes are boldface and easy to spot. For good measure, Hought includes instructions for tying the mecate on the newly made bosal. If you consider only that this is a spiral-bound paperback, the book seems a pricey. If you're looking for solid instructional material and the benefit of Hought's experience, Price: $54.50 plus S/H you'll feel you're getting your money's worth and then some.”

We have been building rawhide bosal inner cores since 1978. Gail has easily braided over 500 Braiding Supplies bosals using these rawhide cores. We are now offering for sale these same rawhide cores which range in stiffness from medium soft to medium stiff. The description of stiffness is the perception of the braider and what the application is to be. Every effort has been taken that each core is less than 1/16“ difference between the smallest to largest diameter and about 36” in length. Some sanding is required to meet your desired diameter but they are as uniform as possible. Cores are $55.00 each and are not returnable. Be sure to specify which size bosal you are braiding because inner cores range in diameter from 3/16“ (pencil bosal) to 3/8” (full size bosal). Please specify the desired diameter of core when placing your order. Hint: If you receive one that you really like it would be wise to order more immediately. The chances of getting a mate to the first are good because they will most likely be made from the same hide. Every core we sell meets our standards. We know how difficult quality cores are to find. We do not sell seconds. Pounding Boards & Rolling /Pounding Stick are essential to all braiders. They function to smoothen finished buttons or bosals. The dense maple hardwood is smooth, dent resistant, hand rubbed and the wax adds a sheen and finish to these fine pieces of wood. The boards and uniquely designed sticks are roughly 7" X10" and 2" X12" respectfully.
