PSV, beaten 2-1 first up at home to Granada, came from behind to win by the same score in Nicosia with an added-time strike from Donyell Malen, the 21-year-old's second goal of the game. Previous meetings • The clubs have been paired together twice before, in back-to-back UEFA Cup campaigns (2000/01 and 2001/02) and on each occasion in the third round. PSV won three of the four matches and both ties, PAOK's solitary success coming in the first leg of the 2001/02 contest when they won 3-2 in Salonika. • That remains PAOK's only victory in 16 matches against Dutch opposition (D8 L7). Their home record is W1 D4 L3, the most recent such fixture a 2-2 draw against Ajax in last season's UEFA Champions League third qualifying round that preceded a 3-2 defeat for the Salonika side in Amsterdam. • In contrast PSV have won eight of their 12 UEFA encounters with Greek clubs (D1 L3), including three of the six away fixtures, the most recent of which brought a 3-2 success at Panathinaikos in the 2014/15 UEFA Europa League group stage. Form guide PAOK • PAOK finished distant runners-up to Olympiacos in the 2019/20 Greek Superleague in defence of their title, but they harboured high hopes of reaching the UEFA Champions League group stage for the first time this season when they knocked out Beşiktaş (3-1 h) and Benfica (2-1 h) in their first two qualifying ties, only to lose 2-1 in both legs of their play-off against Krasnodar. • That means PAOK have extended their record of having participated in every season of the UEFA Europa League to a 12th successive year. Last season they lost on away goals to Slovan Bratislava in the play-offs (0-1 a, 3-2 h), but they are back in the group stage this term for the eighth time. Four of their previous seven participations have extended into the knockout phase but never beyond the round of 32. Their most recent group campaign, in 2018/19, was their poorest yet as they lost five of their six games and finished bottom of a group headed by eventual winners Chelsea. • The Salonika side lost all three home fixtures in that 2018/19 group stage and have won just one of their last 13 at the Stadio Toumba in the UEFA Europa League proper (D5 L7), failing to score in eight of them, including five of the last eight. PSV • PSV finished fourth in the curtailed 2019/20 Dutch Eredivisie, earning a place in the UEFA Europa League third qualifying round. Under their new German coach Roger Schmidt they won away to both Mura (5-1) and Rosenborg (2- 0) this season to secure an eighth group stage berth. • Last season, having been defeated by Basel on away goals in the UEFA Champions League second qualifying round (3-2 h, 1-2 a), PSV advanced into the UEFA Europa League group stage but went no further, eliminated after successive heavy away defeats at LASK (1-4) and Sporting CP (0-4). The 2010/11 quarter-finalists have now failed to progress from their group in four of the last five attempts. • PSV were unbeaten in their first nine away games in the UEFA Europa League group stage (W7 D2), but despite the Matchday 2 success at Omonoia have lost six of the 13 since (W5 D2) and have also gone nine games without a victory on the road during the autumn in the UEFA Champions League (D3 L6). Links and trivia • PAOK's Diego Biseswar is a Dutchman who began his senior career with Feyenoord, his time there from 2005 to 2012 incorporating loan spells at Heracles (2006/07) and De Graafschap (2008). His record in eight games against PSV was W2 D1 L5, and he provided assists in both victories – a 1-0 home win for Feyenoord in March 2009 and a 3- 1 success for the Rotterdam club in April 2011.
