18 OCTOBER2015 OCTOBER 2015 19 WHERE TO SEE GHOSTS ON HALLOWEEN Captain Whidbey Inn, Coupville, WA has been an Inn since 1906—plenty of time for one of Whidbey Island’s famous ghosts to do some haunting. Twenty years ago, a man was the only guest at the Inn. He went down the hall to the bathroom and felt a presence behind him. He turned to see a woman walking down the hall and going into a room. In the morning he was told that there was no one else there. Since then, a woman in white has been seen walking by guests, and then disappearing into thin air. And if you think your wife will believe that….

Fort Worden State Park, Port Townsend, Wa Between 1897 and 1892, the U.S. Military built 3 defensive forts at the mouth of Puget Sound to protect against armed invasion. Fort Worden was finished in 1902, named after the commander of an ironclad ship, The Monitor, used in the Civil War. The buildings are still there preserved by the state, and apparently so are many of the defenders. Keep looking over your shoulder, and listen for the ghostly BOOM! of vintage heavy guns. The most haunted building is “Alexander’s Castle” where the ghost stays busy all night moving furniture around the upper floor while guests try to sleep on the lower floor. Could it be the heart-broken ghost of Alexander who went all the way to Scotland to fetch his bride only to find out she had married someone else? Email makes these awkward situations so much easier now.

Sit and Spin Laundromat and Club, Seattle, WA Do your wash and have a drink in this funky jazz club with linoleum floors and kitchen tables, started in the 1920s by the late Vic Meyers, a Seattle band leader. As a joke, Vic ran for mayor. He lost but thought he might do better as governor. When he went to Olympia to file, he found out that lieutenant governor cost less to file. Although he couldn’t spell lieutenant, he took it and won. Why can’t we have fun politicians now like in the good old days? If you feel a creepy chill and an invisible handshake while doing your laundry, it’s just Vic washing his sheet.

26 OCTOBER2015 OCTOBER 2015 27 RASCAL Lemon coated Beagle 5 year old male

Rascal is a very affectionate guy who loves to snuggle. He is amazing with kids, dogs, and cats, and gets a star for being the perfect family dog. His former military family couldn’t keep him due to deployment, so he is in foster care with R.E.D. until he finds a new family to love him. Rascal recently had surgery for an abscess. He is all better now but R.E.D. needs to replace the vet bill costs so they will have funds for other pets that come to them needing care. If you already have a full house pet-wise, a small donation would greatly help. R.E.D. (Rescue Every Dog) is a nonprofit staffed by volunteers. Pets are in foster homes until they are adopted.
