Notification of RSPO Certification Assessment of Gomali Palm Oil mil and Estates under IOI Corporation Berhad

IOI Corporation Berhad has applied to SGS Malaysia Sdn Bhd for assessment of Gomali Oil Palm mill and its estates, located in Batu Anam, Johor, against the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil Principles and Criteria (RSPO P&C).

IOI, an active member of RSPO, is among the largest player in the industry owning a total of 97,809 ha of plantations land in Sabah, 50,904 ha in Peninsular Malaysia and 64,500 ha in Indonesia. The company also owns and manages 12 CPO mills and a number of refineries. The company aims to achieve RSPO certification for all of its holdings in Peninsular and Sabah by 2011. The holdings in Sarawak are supplying FFB to external mills managed by other companies and will be certified through these companies. The company has made a commitment to comply with RSPO requirement for new plantings of its holdings in Indonesia where SEIA and HCVF studies have been carried out by independent consultants prior to land development. Currently, 2000 hectares have been planted with oil palm that has no social conflicts and HCVF areas.

The proposed assessment of Gomali mill and estates will be conducted against RSPO Principles and Criteria – Malaysian National Interpretation elements. The field assessment will be carried out by three SGS auditors, tentatively during the period of 10 – 15 August 2009. The details of the CPO mill and the plantations to be assessed are as follows:
