It is more of a factual recitation of photographs taken, places stayed, people they interacted with, meals consumed, flights missed, and lots of detail about everything she bought while traveling. More than anything else it reads like there was an effort to make a story out of mostly insignificant details. Is it interesting? Yes, but not rivetingly so, even when it should be. Historically it gathers together some interesting time periods, in some interesting locations. It grew annoying, frankly, every check-in to have it mentioned, and then followed with an explanation. The last part of the book is mostly about the end of their very brief marriage. Clearly Caldwell was heartbroken over the end of their marriage. As such, I would have expected something more, more depth, perhaps, more warmth, more of a story and less of history lesson boiled down to the essential facts. View all 6 comments. After reading "You have seen their faces" I was looking forward to read this book but I was a little disappointed because as a trip diary it was really poor of pictures, especially compared to the first book I mentioned above. Mostly it describes the situation before, during and after their journey to Soviet Union, the difficulties, meeting with different and famous people, their behavior and their fights, so, as far as I'm concerned not so interesting.
