MARK NORMAND Mark Normand is a biting, smart comedian based in New York City. So far in 2014, Mark was a semi- finalist on NBC’s Last Comic Standing, his Comedy Central Presents: THE HALF HOUR special premiered in July, and his debut CD “Still Got It” (Comedy Central Productions) was released in July from and is available on iTunes and Amazon! Mark has previously appeared on Comedy Central’s @MIDNIGHT, TBS’s CONAN, Comedy Central’s INSIDE AMY SCHUMER, MTV Other’s INSIDE JOKE, Comedy Central’s JOHN OLIVER’S NEW YORK STAND UP SHOW, and won the 2013 Caroline's March Madness competition, beating out 63 other comedians. This is a shocker for all of us but he was also voted Village Voice's "Best Comedian of 2013", I know right? Quit bragging!!! Mark was born and raised in New Orleans, LA surprisingly to two normal parents. As a kid he spent most of his time shooting short films and wetting the bed. Mark started doing comedy right after college and quickly moved to New York. Mark now does comedy clubs and colleges across the country and has been involved in many festivals including Portland, Seattle, DC, Boston, and was featured as a New Face at the Montreal Comedy Festival, where he recorded a set for Canadian TV. In NYC Mark now runs two comedy shows and two podcasts in NYC, “Hot Soup” a weekly show, “We're all Friends Here”, a live show also recorded as a podcast, and "Tuesdays with Stories!”, a podcast from Stand Up NY Labs. More annoying accolades: Mark was named one of Comedy Central’s Comics To Watch for the 2011 New York Comedy Festival. Mark was also named to Esquire’s “Best New Comedians 2012”, Splitsider’s “Top 10 Up and Coming Comedians on Each Coast”, and Time Out New York’s “21 New York Comedy Scene Linchpins”. What Will it Take to Save Comedy Central? 08.16.2016 Comedy Central's cancellation of The Nightly Show is the latest in a series of signals that all is not well at the network that was once the home of the country's sharpest political satire and news commentary. On Monday, Comedy Central announced that it was cancelling the show, which took Stephen Colbert's Colbert Report time slot in February 2015 when Colbert moved over to CBS' The Late Show. The move was not surprising considering the ratings: The Nightly Show is averaging a barely-there 0.2 among its key demographic of adults 18-49. RELATED: Comedy Central Cancels 'The Nightly Show' But The Nightly Show's failure to catch on is not the only problem at Comedy Central. Consider its late-night partner, The Daily Show, long the network's marquee program with host Jon Stewart. Stewart left the show just over a year ago and was replaced with South African comic Trevor Noah, who was hand-picked by Stewart. But despite Comedy Central's best efforts to reassure the media and audiences that Noah would eventually catch on, so far he hasn't. In May, The Wrap reported that The Daily Show had lost 38% of Stewart's audience among millennials aged 18-34 and 35% in households. And that comes at a time when the country is in the middle of a presidential election that lends itself extremely well to satire. It's also proven to be a mistake to let so much of its talent walk out the door, with Stephen Colbert going to CBS, John Oliver to HBO and Samantha Bee to TBS, taking much of Comedy Central's brand equity with them.
