When the leading lady breaks her ankle, Peggy takes her place and becomes a star. 42nd Street is full of vibrant dancing, spectacular production numbers, and some of the most popular songs from the classic Broadway catalog—including “We’re In The Money,” “Lullaby of Broadway,” “Shuffle Off To Buffalo,” and, of course, “42nd Street.” The original Broadway production of 42nd Street opened on August 25, 1980 and ran for 3,486 performances over more than eight years on Broadway at the Winter Garden, Majestic, and St. James Theatres. It was revived on Broadway in 2001 and played 1,524 performances at the Ford Center for the Performing Arts—clocking it in as the 14th longest running show in Broadway history. In 1981, the original Broadway production of 42nd Street won two Tony Awards for Best Musical and Best Choreography and two Drama Desk Awards for Best Choreography and Best Costume Design. The 2001 revival, on which the newest tour is based, won two Tony Awards for Best Musical Revival and Best Leading Actress and the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Revival. With a book by Michael Stewart and Mark Bramble, music by Harry Warren, and lyrics by Al Dubin, this new touring production is directed by co-author Mark Bramble and choreographed by Randy Skinner— the team who staged the 2001 Tony Award-winning revival. “42nd Street is an absolutely timeless Broadway show,” said IU Auditorium Director Doug Booher. “We cannot wait for our audiences to be transported back to the golden age of Broadway musicals with this sparkling new production. Glitzy, glamorous, and packed with incredible dancing, 42nd Street is sure to entertain audiences old and new.” For more information on 42nd Street and the rest of the Auditorium’s 75th anniversary season, visit IUauditorium.com. The website features video clips and a selection of songs from this season's performances, in addition to a direct link to the IU Auditorium Facebook and Twitter pages, whose members receive exclusive benefits throughout the year. 42nd Street at IU Auditorium is sponsored by Smithville Fiber, Classic Touch Limousine, and Bunger & Robertson. IU Auditorium’s 2015–2016 season is presented by Curry Auto Center, The Herald-Times, B97 Radio, and CFC Properties. ### .
