All enrolled 100 students were involved from class 6-8. Converted barren land of school in green campus with the help of community. School has preserved 40 varieties of vegetables and flowering plant seeds. Bird count conducted in school through competition where 18 types of birds were documented; animals on the campus were also documented by students as science project Documented total number of plants on the campus total 565 plants Planted saplings 25 in the campus and 85 plants at students residents Students have also documented village biodiversity - varieties of rice (9 varieties), mangoes (21 varieties) and cattle . Centre for Environment Education KGBV-Malihabad, Lucknow Saving 500 litres by utilizing waste water by using it in irrigation. Prepared a 10 fit deep pit to collect waste water coming from kitchen, and bathroom by putting polythene lining Collected water is used for irrigation and sprinkling in the campus Assessed quantity and type of waste for planning its management Started with 3 compost pits, in one month 150 kg compost was prepared from 300 kg wet waste. During 3 months period 900 kgs waste was used for preparing 450 kg compost Also preparing compost from tealeaves separately (prepared 10 kg compost in three months Total 93 kg Non biodegradable waste generated which is collected and recycled for making various useful products and also selling it to recyclers Both side paper use is promoted in school as standard practice Centre for Environment Education KGBV-Malihabad, Lucknow Quotations on hand print actions have been displayed on walls and other places to promote behavioural changes Community linkage established for taking awareness messages as well as for taking support Maths, Science and Physical Education subject has been linked with the ongoing PM activities Institutions providing support are: CIMAP, CEE, UNICEF, Social NGO for vocational education Centre for Environment Education Jury remarks Kasturba Gandhi Schools act as bridge schools for dropout girls. It is a residential school which has considered local environmental problems of water, greening, waste management and culture. School’s effort to involve everyone at school level and community presents a positive example. Results shown through action projects are really impressive. Using seeds and various other material to make green rakhi’s is quite innovative Sets a good example for government schools. Centre for Environment Education Purva Madhyamik Vidyalaya, Itaunja, BKT, Lucknow Student teams were formed to work on three thematic areas from std 6, 7 & 8. To begin with students were assembled for a general meeting to understand environmental problems and to find solutions for it. Action project helped students to enhance their skills like leadership, problem solving, working in team etc. First project was taken up on waste management focusing on reduce, reuse and recycle. Students conducted assessment survey in and around campus covering shops, temples, residential area. Waste was collected and categorized and then ways of reusing them was finalized This converted into interesting science project for students as they prepared lamps with waste batteries. Centre for Environment Education PMV Itaunja, BKT, Lucknow Linked biodiversity action project with science where students conducted a survey for documentation of flora and fauna on the campus Saplings planted of 23 varieties Over 150 Dana-pani organized in the campus and protected birds nests As a result sparrow is now seen on campus and even other birds visitation has increased Leftover mid day meal is being used by children to feed stray animals and cattle Students have started taking care of small creatures Under water and sanitation, following activities were done: Channelized waste water of hand pump and kitchen to garden area. Students have adopted hand washing as habit. Filled water pits in and around campus to avoid mosquito breeding Conducted cleaning campaign in nearby pond and organized campaign to keep water sources clean Centre for Environment Education Jury Remarks Students learning from each action project has been captured in the report very well. Students have prepared a range of best out of waste products which has been displayed at various forums. Though school has not quantified the results such as amount of water saved and waste reused/recycled, however efforts of school needs to be encouraged. Total 5892 litres water is being used every day Leakage of tap was identified and repaired – saved 288 litres of water by repairing 4 leaky taps. School received a national level ‘Earthian’ award for its work on water. Students, teachers, non teaching staff were involved in the activities. Work done on greening and waste management is also very good Centre for Environment Education City Montessori School, RDSO Branch, Lucknow Vertical gardening concept introduced as no land was available for plantation Forest week observed by school where saplings were contributed by students. Total 100 saplings of hibiscus, shatawar, ashwagandha etc. were in pots made from waste bottles, cans and other material. Organized various activities – collage making, essay writing, quizzes and debates Rain water harvesting system is installed in the campus . Wastage of water is avoided in the campus. Entire school from junior to senior level were involved in understanding the importance of water. Centre for Environment Education City Montessori School, RDSO, Lucknow Energy monitors were appointed in each class with the duties to switch off lights and fans when not required. Energy audit was conducted to find out the per capita consumption of electricity and to take measure to conserve it Conservation messages were put up near switches Regular assembly talks were focused on energy conservation Electricity consumption data of 2012 and 2013 (between September to November) shows decrease in electricity units (2244 units) Various role plays and skits were organized on environment Gomti week observed in April 2013 and Say no to crackers campaign World Parliament performed during Divine Education Conference focusing on saving mother earth. Centre for Environment Education Jury remarks Curriculum linkage has been established with the action projects Community is also involved through various initiatives School received support from Centre for Science and Environment, Forest Department and UP Pollution Control Board. Everyone in school was involved in activities. Data of energy audit given in report is impressive. Centre for Environment Education Anglo Bengali Inter College, Allahabad School campus is spread in 21793 sq meter with over 1000 student’s enrollment and with staff quarters on the campus. Student teams were formed involving students from 7-12 std. Detailed assessment of water consumption at school campus Daily consumption is 8961 litre , identified leakage points where 931 lit per days gets wasted Water quality was also assessed for bore well, supply and hand pump water samples Method of water purification was also reviewed and emphasized Inter school competitions organized focusing on water cooperation in Aug 2013 Water used in hand washing is used for watering plants. School uses SMS, Mail and Face book to spread message on celebration eco friendly festivals. Students curriculum based projects are linked with Paryavaran Mitra activities with marks allocation. Celebrate various national days focused on environment awareness. School acts as lead school and involve nearby schools and colleges to participate in various events.
