A full-day fair/fundraiser for the school featuring more Photo by Jonah Merkin than 50 vendors, a pie contest, celebrity judges, and performances by the school chorus and band and lots and lots of eating, Eat, Pie and Shop is one of P.S. 29’s most beloved annual events. P.S. 29 Post photographers were out in force documenting the day in pictures.

How Kids are Involved in Eat, Pie and Shop BY CHARLIE SMITH (4-508)

Did you attend Eat Pie and Shop? You may have noticed all of the adults serving pie, shopping, and selling items at the booths, but did you notice all of the ways P.S. 29 Photo by Jonah Merkin kids were involved, too? Many people think that Eat Pie and Shop is a PTA fundraiser, and it is! But it is also a chance for the kids Photo by Charlie Smith of P.S. 29 to show their many talents. For example, Photo by Jonah Merkin visitors who arrived at P.S. 29 on Sunday, December 4 Photo by Charlie Smith at 11am were greeted by the P.S. 29 Band playing on the steps of the main entrance. One member of the band, Siorus said, “Band is a fun way to learn new instruments and looks good for middle school too!” Of course, since this was Eat Pie and Shop, students also baked pies, some of which were entered into the Kids’ Pie Contest. Sixty kids entered pies of all kinds. There was everything from an apple pie to a s’mores pie. But, because they could only take so many pies, they even had to reject some! Kids also judged pies. If you were there you probably saw lots of pie slices on the long, judging table. There were 12 judges in all. Originally, the organizers of the event wanted two kids from each grade, but a lot of kids couldn’t attend so random kids were asked to fill in for the student judges who couldn’t come. The P.S. 29 Chorus also performed in the cafeteria at 3:00. The group sang “This Little Light of Mine” and everyone seemed to everyone it. “I think chorus is a fun experience,” Ryan Geisler, a fourth-grade member of the chorus, said. In conclusion, kids have a big part in Eat Pie Shop, Photo by Jonah Merkin Photo by Charlie Smith maybe an even bigger part than the adults. Next year, you can get involved too!

December's Eat Pie Shop featured pies made by students and adults as well as performances by the P.S. 29 band, which greeted visitors on the school's steps with an event-themed version of "Hot Cross Buns" and other festive tunes. The P.S. 29 chorus, meanwhile, sang "This Little Light of Mine" in the cafeteria. Some sixty students got a "piece" (get it?) of the action – baking yummy mud pies, blueberry tarts and lots more. Twelve kids from different grades had the toughest job of all: judging the hot and juicy kid-baked category.
