[email protected] The death of Elizabeth Taylor on Wednesday drew expressions of sadness and admiration from AIDS and LGBT activists in D.C., who said they were honored that the city’s Whitman-Walker Clinic build- ing that bears her name would serve as a local legacy to the famous actress. Taylor, a two-time Academy Award-winning actress who starred in more than 50 fi lms over a period of nearly 70 years, died at a hospital in Los Angeles of congestive heart failure. She was 79. “She was an extraordinary personality and it’s a wonderful feeling that we have a little part of her legacy right here on 14th Street, said gay D.C. Council member Jim Graham (D-Ward 1). Graham served as executive director of the Whitman-Walker Clinic in November 1993, when Taylor came to D.C. for a ceremony to dedi- cate the Clinic’s main building for patient services as the Elizabeth Taylor Medical Center.

  • Administration of Donald J. Trump, 2019 Remarks Honoring the World
Administration of Donald J. Trump, 2019 Remarks Honoring the World Series Champion Washington Nationals November 4, 2019 The President. Well, thank you very much, everyone. I have to say, this is a record. We've never had this many people on the front lawn of the White House. So congratulations. Just another record for the Nats. But today the First Lady and I are thrilled to welcome to the White House the 2019 World Series Champions, the Washington Nationals. For the first time in nearly 100 years, our Nation's Capital is celebrating a World Series victory. That's big stuff. The last time Washington, DC, was home to the World Series champs, the President was a gentleman named Calvin Coolidge. That's a long time ago. Nearly a century later, the Nationals have brought back the trophy to America's Capital, and you've won it. This is the first World Series in franchise history, and it's going to be, really, the first of many, I predict. I want to congratulate the terrific owners of the team. Your principal owner, Mark Lerner, and Ted Lerner. Great people. The Lerner family. A man who's become very famous—I think he's much more famous than me right now— General Manager Mike Rizzo. You have become very famous, huh? General Manager and President of Baseball Operations Mike Rizzo. Thank you, sir. The President. A manager—and you watch all the mistakes made in baseball and other sports, and then you watch what this man did as manager. He didn't make any.

Kendall Murphy Advisor: Archie Lee Coates IV 4/24/2017 Kendall Murphy School of Visual Arts, MFA Design for Social Innovation Thesis 2017 Process Book 1 “It’s my job as an artist to be out there pushing peoples’ buttons and making them question everything.” Marilyn Manson Problem: High Consumption Rate of Animal Products According to the USDA, the average American consumed 180 pounds of meat Figure 1 in 2014. As human population grows, it generates more demand within the food system, possibly disproportionately for meat products, as we are currently consuming more meat, eggs, and nuts than the recommended amount (Figure 1). As consumption rate increases, so do greenhouse gas emissions, strain on our fresh water supply, land use, and livestock waste, which contributes to ocean dead zones. Animal agriculture is responsible for more greenhouse gas emissions than all combined global transportation.1,2 About 44 percent of livestock emissions are in the form of methane (CH4).2 The remaining part is almost equally shared between Nitrous Dioxide (N2O, 29 percent) and Carbon Dioxide (CO2, 27 percent).2 CH4 has 25 times the global warming potential of CO2, while N2O has 298 times the global warming potential of CO2.3 Animal-based food products are also extremely water intensive compared to alternative high-protein foods. For example, it takes as around 12,139 more liters of water to produce one pound of beef compared to one pound of rice and beans.4,5 When animal waste is improperly managed, it could pollute waterways with excess nutrients, contributing to algae blooms which lead to the degradation of oxygen levels, and thus create dead zones.
