2 The Life Members Journal - “Keeping Life Members Connected & Informed” Message from the OLMF Chairman

Greetings Brothers,

I pray that all is well with you and your families and your new year is delivering the blessings you desired. The Omega Life Membership Foundation Board of Directors has been seriously at work addressing the 21st Century issues related to compliance.

We hosted a retreat centered on OLMF operating within the law. The second decade brought with it more complex regulations governing philanthropy. We have Lawrence E. Moon addressed them all. The Board has authorized a more creative interactive website to OLMF Chairman keep brothers more informed.

As we approach the Centennial Celebration, we give thanks for the opportunity to have become friends in the different “Omega” manner. Our Cardinal Principles have given us direction in a specific, meaningful way, improving the plight of our fellow man. The Founders of the Foundation went further adding the component of intentioned, organized significant financial support for those in need. Life Members made the decision to go further with Omega. We shared our treasure to establish an organization aligned with the goals and objectives of our Fraternity Founders.

We celebrate 27 years of charitable giving throughout the world that includes scholarships, leadership development grants, local mentorship programs, Haitian Relief, HBCU financial support, and support for the Fine Arts to name a few. Because of your desire to improve mankind we have served those less fortunate than ourselves in excess of $2,300,000.00.

Brothers, I am appealing to your charitable spirit. Our world has changed significantly. Some economists say that this generation that follows us, is the first that less is expected of due to uncertainty in the world economy. Conversely most of us, “Baby Boomers” have experienced more financial success than any prior generation of our people in America. We are experiencing the greatest transfer of wealth in the history of our country and the world. I beg that you consider Omega Life Membership Foundation for your philanthropic endeavors. As the world assisted the Haitians, we had Brothers who used our Foundation as their vehicle to help them. We were specific that our donation went to direct services not administrative cost.

When you consider that a large percentage of our giving directly impacts the most underserved portion of our society, the African-American male; hopefully you agree that if organizations like ours do not step up we will continue to lose too many that we simply cannot afford losing.

At the Centennial Conclave, OLMF will make a major gift to Howard University commemorating what our Fraternity Founders accomplished in bringing Omega to the world 100 years ago. We are a 501(c)3 organization, so your charitable gifts to the Foundation receive the same tax relief as any other non-profit. The board of directors has put in place all necessary documentation to pass any scrutiny of how we receive and dispense gifts. You will receive IRS approved documentation for your gift in a timely manner. We encourage legacy gifts. The art of remembering the Foundation in your estate planning supports the continuance of our great work in perpetuity.

The Life Members Journal - “Keeping Life Members Connected & Informed” 3 Historically, we give to the Foundation one time, when we become members. We are asking that OLMF be considered when planning your philanthropic budget every year. I am not asking for your tithes, everything else is fair game. Many of us, are members of Rotary, Lions Club, Boule and other non-profits that may perform similar services. By virtue of our affiliation we have like desires in helping the less fortunate. I am pleased to say that every member of the Board of Directors of the Omega Life Membership Foundation has pledged to make a financial gift to the Foundation for fiscal year 2011-2012.

In closing, I look forward to seeing you all in Washington, D.C. this summer. The Board convenes Sunday, July 24th and will host the Annual Meeting and Luncheon, Tuesday, July 26th at the JW Marriott. When registration information is released, please respond in a timely manner. All indications suggest this will be our largest meeting ever. Our intent is for everyone to be well-served and content. We need your time and your treasure.

Sincerely, Lawrence E. Moon Brother Lawrence E. Moon Chairman of the Board Omega Life Membership Foundation

At the request of Grand Basileus Brother Herbert Tucker, National Executive Secretary Brother H. Carl Moultrie, Sr. recommended in his report to the 41st Grand Conclave in Atlanta, GA the institution of a Life Membership Program. This was the very beginning of the Life Membership Program in 1954. Today, there are over 6000 Life Members and the program continues to Brother Herbert Tucker attract more men of Omega every year. Grand Bas. 1954-1956

The Life Membership Program was eventually voted into law by the Grand Conclave of 1958 in Cleveland, OH. In those early days, the program had accomplished very little. There was always a fear that such a program would destroy the local chapters. But over the years, this proved to be false.

The program was revived under Grand Basileus Brother Brother Cary Jacobs James S. Avery and chaired by Brother Walter "Crow" Riddick. Grand Bas. 1961-1964 Under Brother Riddick's leadership, the number of life members rose from 47 to almost 300. By the time Brother Riddick entered Omega Chapter in 1977, the number of life members had risen to 1000.

The Omega Life Membership Foundation, Inc. was established on September 7, 1984. It was chartered to aid organizations involved in charitable, educational, scholastic and Brother James Avery scientific pursuits. Since its establishment, it has had tremendous Grand Bas. 1970-1973 growth and success and has been of significant benefit to those groups whose work it has been privileged to support.

There have been numerous young people, gifted in the performing arts, and in scholastic pursuits who were able to continue their progress, as a result of the generous, philanthropic work of the Foundation. It has supported a number of Uplift and Scholastic projects and initiatives started and endorsed by the Brother Carl Moultrie Fraternity, Inc. National Exec. Sec.

The Articles of Incorporation were filed in the District of Columbia on September 8, 1984 and Amended Articles of Incorporation filed on March 14, 1985. The purposes for which the corporation is organized are to take, receive, acquire, own, have, and hold the life membership estate, assets, funds, principal, income monies, accounts, grants, donations, gifts and properties both real and personal, tangible and intangible, for such uses and Brother Walter Riddick purposes and with such powers, duties, and obligations as are set Chairman Emeritus forth in the charter and corporate bylaws.
