For the spring semester at UCSD the University Art Gallery is pleased to present the exhibition Transurbaniac that features work from the permanent collection of Museo Universitario Arte Contemporáneo (MuAC) located in City. MuAC is the largest public institution in Mexico with a collection of national and international contemporary art.

The exhibition curated Guillermo Santamarina Head of Curatorial Affairs at MuAC, features twenty-one contemporary Mexican artists whose work explores the intersection between city living and notions of contemporary art-making emerging in Mexico. Reluctant to present the broken condition of urban existence, Santamarina instead embraces the contradictions that surface, thus allowing an honest and diverse experience to emerge.

On April 7 Guillermo Santamarina will talk about the exhibition and the artists represented in MuAC’s collection. The talk will begin at 6:30pm in Center Hall rm 212. No reservations are needed but seating is limited. The public is encouraged to park in Gilman Parking Structure and then walk up Gilman drive to Center Hall.

The Museo Universitario Arte Contemporáneo (Contemporary Art University Museum) is the largest public institution in Mexico to accommodate a collection of national and international contemporary art. Aiming to promote learning and esthetic enjoyment, its contents, architecture and interpretation tools offer the public the possibility of creating their own personal tour: college students, art experts, children, young adults and visitors in general, each build and enjoy their visit as a unique experience. Located in the Cultural Center of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), the MuAC is the first museum fully created, in its architecture, management, museology, and interpretation, for contemporary art.

The University Art Gallery is open Tuesday to Saturday, 11am - 5pm. Further information please contact: +1 858 534-2107 or [email protected].
