Qatar’s ‘Our Eid is One Initiative-2’ project benefits 50,000 expatriates

The Qatar government joined members of the expatriate community in spreading the joy of Eid al-Adha by launching the ‘Our Eid is One Initiative-2’ programme to help them celebrate the festival at home and convey the importance of staying indoors to prevent the spread of Covid-19. Under this initiative, 50,000 Qatar residents from 17 nationalities have benefited from 25,000 food coupons, which included the provision of necessary food materials for Eid. The coupons were distributed on the first day of Eid during a function held at the Qatar Charity headquarters in Lusail in the presence of 40 off icials representing diff erent embassies and community organisations. Nearly 160 tonnes of waste removed from beaches

The Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME)’s General Cleanliness Department has continued with its intensive eff orts to clean beaches and public places around the country during the Eid al-Adha holidays. Accordingly, field teams have been doing their work in three shifts round the clock. They managed to remove 159.5 tonnes of waste from diff erent beaches in the country on the first two days of Eid al-Adha using suitable equipment and vehicles, the MME said in a statement yesterday. The field teams formed specifically for the occasion cover all areas around the country with a special focus on recreation facilities and places such as the Corniche, parks and gardens, public beaches and others visited by a large number of people. The garbage containers provided at these sites are being cleared more frequently. Besides, the department also carried out cleaning and sanitising works in open areas and yards designated for the Eid prayer. This was done in co-operation with the entities concerned. Field teams were designated for beach cleaning around the country, with a particular focus on the Corniche, Sealine, Al Khor, Al Wakra, Al Ghariya, Ras Matbakh, , Al Ruwais, Abu Zallouf and other beaches that attract a good number of visitors. This was done to ensure that the public could spend a good time there during the holidays. The MME has called on the public to abide by the stipulations of Public Hygiene Law No 18 of 2017 and maintain public cleanliness by disposing of waste in the designated containers only.
