At first glance, knowing whether to connect directly or via our cloud service can seem confusing. However, there are clear benefits to each connection method. The trick is knowing how to maximize these benefits. This brief product guide provides an overview of the differences between cloud and direct connectivity, and offers some advice on how each method can be used to your greatest advantage. Key terminology Throughout this guide, we refer to certain RealVNC-specific terminology. VNC Connect is comprised of two separate apps: VNC Server and VNC Viewer. You must install and license VNC Server on the computer you want to control. This is known as your VNC Server computer. You must then install VNC Viewer on the computer or device you want to take control from, which is known as your VNC Viewer device. You do not need to license this device, meaning you can freely connect to your VNC Server computer from as many devices as you wish. -

Degree in Space Studies August, 2016 Internship Mentor: Prof. Kazuya Yoshida Host Institution: Tohoku University, Sendai, Japan ISU Academic Advisor: Prof. Hugh Hill ABSTRACT This report discusses the activities performed during the three-month internship at the Space Robotics Laboratory of Tohoku University, in Sendai (Japan), the internship being the final module of the International Space University’s Master of Space Studies program. The project, which envisaged the development of a wireless communication system for swarm intelligent robots based on the LTE technology, has been widely described in all its phases, from the Literature Review to the practical experience. A detailed description of all the hardware, procedures tested, trouble shooting methods and results obtained is also included. Due to the large number of problems encountered when trying to connect the LTE modem device, it was not possible to accomplish the task of building a real communication system. Nonetheless, possible reasons for all the issues occurred have been explained and motivated, and some recommendations for further studies have been stated. At the same time, a research concerning the next steps of the project has been carried out and a feasible method to establish a communication between different platforms has been analyzed and proposed. In addition to the main project, this report introduces also the activities of the Tohoku University Engineering Summer Program (TESP), to which I participated, as well as its positive outcomes. -

With ca- bles, SD card, etc., the cost is about $70. Originally designed to help teach computer science principles to low income children and students, the Pi has taken on a life of its own, with many online resources and projects that cover most everything one would want to do with a small low monetary cost and low battery power computer. This paper/session will present the Raspberry Pi and provide ideas of what it can do and how one can get started using it. The author has used Pi's for Internet data acquisi- tion/monitoring, cluster processing using more than one Pi, email notifications, and power monitoring. The particular focus example will be on UPS power monitoring and status using off the shelf Open Source software. The main software for the purpose of power monitoring is NUT, Network UPS Tools, whose goal is "to provide support for Power Devices, such as Uninterruptible Power Supplies, Power Distribution Units and Solar Controllers." Some background in the theory and practice of electrical power, surge protection, uninterruptible powers supplies, etc., will be provided.
