As KEY DATES THIS SPRING Wthis newsletter shows, the Environment Trust is beginning to take off with the educational work that we are SPRING MEMBERS MEETING developing, to enable people to understand and appreciate the environment (both built and natural) around them. Monday 15th March This means that the office is busier than ever, not helped by the fact that I will be moving on at Easter, as I am going back to A CELEBRATION OF THE WORKING LIFE fulltime medical writing. We are currently recruiting for a new OF THE RIVER THAMES office coordinator, which is proving to be much harder than when Thursday 25th March I “applied” for the post, as the Trust is now much bigger and more professional. No doubt you will be able to meet my replacement at the AGM in June (save the date!) ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING Meanwhile, we’re trying out a new format for the Members Thursday 10th June Meeting in the hope that people will find a less formal atmosphere more encouraging. July 2018 1 Foreword by the Cabinet Member for Environment, Planning and Sustainability – to be added 1 Introduction 1.1 Setting the Scene 1.1.1 The Council's Local Plan will set out policies and guidance for the development of the borough over the next 15 years. It looks ahead to 2033 and identifies where the main developments will take place, and how places within the borough will change, or be protected from change, over that period. 1.1.2 The Council's Local Plan forms part of the development plan for the borough. It has to go through an Examination in Public by an independent Government inspector before it can be adopted by the Council. The London Plan, prepared by the Mayor of London, also forms part of the development plan, and the Council's Local Plan has to be in general conformity with it. 1.1.3 The role of the development plan is to guide decision making on planning applications and inform investment in social and physical infrastructure. When planning applications are received, they are assessed against the development plan to see whether planning permission should be granted or not. The Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004 requires that “in making any determination under the planning acts, regard is to be had to the development plan; the determination shall be made in accordance with the plan unless material consideration indicates otherwise”.

MY DEAR GIRLS AND OLD GIRLS, In my last letter I mentioned alterations in progress in the Clock House. The new laboratories have now been in use for nine months, and we can hardly remember our old, cramped quarters . When this term opened, the girls found the old Needlework Room remocUlcd as an all-purposes Domestic Science Room, with three cookers, gaily-coloured tables, and fresh, bright paint . It is the governors' intention to add another room later on, but meanwhile this one can be used on alternate days for needlework and cookery . Further adventures in the Clock House are held up while structural repairs are effected in the main house . Dry and wet-rot in roof beams and the top floor have made it necessary to amputate the affected beams and substitute steel girders —Saddle Tor dormitory has been out of action, but during the repairs it has had a fine new window added, so it should make a pleasant room .
