M ICHELE G A M B A – Conductor

Born in , Michele Gamba studied piano and musical composition at Conservatory “Giuseppe Verdi” of his hometown, in addition to graduating in philosophy from Università Statale di Milano. Later he specialized in vocal accompaniment and conducting at Musikhochschule Vienna, at Accademia Chigiana in Siena and at Royal Academy London. After a successful start of his career as a solo pianist, that let him play also at Wigmore Hall and at Gasteig, he made his debut as a conductor in 2009 at Royal Festival Hall with the "Future Firsts" from London Philharmonic Orchestra; later he has collaborated as musical assistant at Staatsoper Hamburg. In 2012 he has begun a collaboration with ROH Covent Garden London, first as Orchestra Conductor and coach at “Jette Parker Young Artists Programme”, then – upon Sir ’s invitation – as his assistant and “Jette Parker” Associate Conductor. At ROH M° Gamba has conducted Mozart’s Bastien und Bastienne and Folk Songs by . In 2015, Daniel Barenmboim invited him as his assistant and as Kappelmeister at Staatsoper Berlin, where he has conducted Le nozze di Figaro in the production staged by Jürgen Flimm, with great acclaim both by critics and by audiences. In 2016 M° Gamba had his company debut at Teatro alla Scala in Milan, with I due Foscari . Following the great success of his performance, he has been invited back at for Die Entführung aus dem Serail, Le Nozze di Figaro and L’elisir d’amore . In the following seasons he has conducted Le Nozze di Figaro at Staatsoper Hamburg, Rossini’s Armida at Opéra National de Montpellier, L’occasione fa il ladro at Teatro La Fenice in , La Sonnambula at Staatsoper Stuttgart, Norma at Macerata Opera Festival, Andrea Chénier at Teatro Petruzzelli in Bari, Mozart’s Requiem at Teatro Filarmonico in Verona, Rigoletto at Opera di Roma. In symphonic music, M° Gamba has already had the chance to work with such as Tokyo Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della Rai, Orchestra del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano “G.Verdi”, Orchestra “I Pomeriggi Musicali”, Filarmonica Arturo Toscanini, Duisburger Philharmoniker, Hamburgisches Staatsorchester, Staatskapelle Berlin, Orchestre National de Montpellier, Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse. Recently he conducted the ORF Orchestra in a CD recording His career as a pianist is going on too: he has recently performed Beethoven's Diabelli Variations in Milan, enjoying great success.
