Clear Channel, which owns radio, TV, outdoor, Internet, satellite radio and scads of other media assets, has just agreed to buy the world's largest live -event producer, SFX Entertainment. Take your average rock concert (or tractor pull): Clear Channel can promote it on radio and outdoor, sell tickets on its "SFX.com" website, plug it on XM Satellite Radio (or maybe do a subcribers -only audiocast), and even sell tee -shirts on a Clear Channel radio station website. And by the way: This is an international deal, since both SFX and Clear Channel are in Europe. Former radio entrepreneur Bob Sillerman took the money he made from selling Capstar and his other radio holdings, and set out to consolidate the fragmented concert -promotion business. The experts said it was impossible, but he pulled it off -- and has just sold his company to Clear Channel for billions. Next, we'll see if Lowry Mays DOES buy that kitchen sink. M Street's research has shown an unceasing decline in the number of mainstream AC stations for years now, and the news is that Oldies is now the #3 -most programmed format.
