June 2017 1. Get Authenticator on your smartphone

Google Authenticator is available for Android/Windows/iOS, on you smartphone, visit your App Store and search for Google Authenticator. Follow any instructions to install the app.

Do not click ‘Begin setup’ just yet, we will come back to Authenticator.

2. Login as normal:

You will see a new field for Google Authenticator below ‘Password’ – ignore this for now and login with your usual username/ password combination.

Upon login, when you go to the Admin dashboard, you will see the message above prompting you to set up your 2-factor authentication. Click the link Please do it now.

[email protected] 4. Setting up your 2-Factor authentication

On your WP Google Authenticator Settings, click Generate Key. This generates a secret code belonging to you. You may either key this code into Google Authenticator or scan a QR code. We recommend scanning the QR code.

[email protected] Now you can go to Google authenticator and click Begin setup at which point you will be prompted to Scan barcode.

[email protected] Click this button and simply use your smartphone camera to capture the QR code displayed in WordPress.

It is also highly recommended that you write down the Recovery code displayed – this is a one use code should you forget your phone that may be used instead of the Google Authenticator 6 digit code.

5. Logging in

Now that you have set up 2-Factor authentication, log out and back in again. In your Google Authenticator app, you should see:

This is your ‘one time code’, you will notice that this changes every 30 seconds.
