Dale Fox (Sussex Room) 8:00am - 5:30pm, This formal course in the visual inspection of SCUBA and SCBA cylinders prepares the graduate to professionally and thoroughly inspect air cylinders. PSI training is recognized by US courts as meeting the definition of someone who has been trained. Completion also satisfies the OSHA requirement for hazardous material (HAZMAT) training for all employees who fill, use or otherwise handle high pressure gas cylinders. Cost $350 Limit 27. W5 Getting Pro Results with your Point and Shoot Camera: Jack & Sue Drafahl (Passaic Room) 9:00am – Noon. Covers everything necessary to take dynamic underwater images with your point & shoot . Topics cover pre-dive setup to end of trip maintenance, and everything in between. Learn exposure mode techniques, lighting with external and internal flash, white balance, RAW files, shutter delays, accessory lenses, macro and wide angle photography. This workshop is also valuable to the D-SLR user who is considering a point & shoot as a second camera system. Cost $65 Limit 30

W6 PSI Valve Repair Technician: A. Dale Fox (Sussex Room) 10:00am – Noon. Provides a broad overview of valve types, valve repair and valve care. It was developed in close association with the valve manufacturers. Students will receive a Certificate of Completion. Cost $175 Limit 27

W7 PSI Oxygen Cylinder Cleaning Technician: A. Dale Fox (Sussex Room) 1:00 - 3:00pm EVERY cylinder needs to be cleaned for oxygen service. This is not a difficult procedure, although it does require diligent application of prescribed procedures and close attention to safety precautions. This course is in compliance with cleaning requirements of the Compressed Gas Association, U.S. government agencies & manufacturers’ policies. Restricted to PSI Visual Cylinder Inspectors. W8 Mastering Underwater Strobes (for cameras with manual controls and an external strobe): (Morris Room) 1:00 - 4:00pm Covers all SLR cameras, Olympus SP350, Canon G10 and other compact digitals that allow full f-stop and shutter speed control. Covers strobe use for primary lighting and for balanced flash fill. Learn creative lighting techniques with single and multiple strobes. If you do not know what an f-stop and shutter speed are, Cathy will review it for you, or contact her for a handout to read in advance ([email protected]). Photographers without manual controls are welcome to learn about the things you need to consider as you move up to another camera. Cost $65 Limit 30

W9 Digitizing, Organizing & Protecting your Photos: John Ares (Bergen Room) 1:00 - 4:00pm This workshop will show you how to digitize your slides and negatives collection at home by using a Digital SLR to copy slides and negatives; how to use Adobe Lightroom for organizing the archive and saving files in the archival DNG format; and, how to use Digital Asset Management (DAM) techniques for developing disciplined, searchable hard drives. Finally, you will learn how to protect your archive by backing-up using a simple strategy of “3:2:1” by having three copies of each file, using two different media and storing one off site. W10 Creative Photoshop Technique: Larry & Denise Tackett (Passaic Room) 1:00 - 4:00pm This workshop is for the student with a basic working knowledge of Photoshop. Topics include layer styles, channels, smart objects, blending modes, mastery of tools, layer masks, selections, actions, noise reduction, spotting, compositing, gradients and more. W11 PSI Eddy Current Technician: A. Dale Fox (Sussex Room) 3:00 - 5:00pm Eddy current testing is designed to detect cracks in the neck area of aluminum cylinders. However, improper use of the testing devices is resulting in many false readings. This workshop pprovides manufacture-approved training in operation of the Visual Plus, Visual Plus 3 & Visual Eddy instruments. Attendees MUST bring a copy of their PSI certificate showing their PSI Inspector Number. Learn how to work with your strobes in manual mode by remembering 4 numbers. No matter which system you plan to use, if you want a head start, this is the workshop to attend. W13 Mastering Underwater Strobes and more (for point and shoot cameras): Cathy Church ( Morris Room) 9:00am – Noon Designed for divers with cameras with limited exposure controls such as Sea Life, Sea & Sea, compact point and shoot cameras, etc. Learn all aspects of getting the best exposures for better blue backgrounds and prettier foregrounds with whatever camera you are using. This is a hands-on workshop, so you should bring your camera with you (and an extra battery and your owner’s manual if possible). Please email Cathy in advance and tell her what brand and model of camera and housing you have ([email protected]). She will prepare a handout specific to your camera to make sure that you will know how to find each setting that she discusses. SUNDAY, MARCH 28TH (Continued) W14 Hands-on Adobe Lightroom: Jack & Sue Drafahl (Passaic Room) 9:00am – Noon Adobe Lightroom allows underwater photographers to input, edit, and output images in a quick and efficient manner. Each attendee at this hands-on workshop is required to bring a laptop computer loaded with any version of Lightroom. A 30-day trial program will be available for those who have not yet purchased the program. Topics covered include: setting up Adobe Lightroom, using it as a catalog and editing program for both RAW and JPEG files, importing images from camera cards and portable hard drives, sorting, renaming and additional tips and tricks. A selection of sample underwater images will be distributed and we will work together correcting them. Samples will include some of the biggest problems that plague underwater photographers, so you can then apply what you’ve learned to your own images. Cost $100 Limit 30

W15 DAN for Hazardous Marine Injuries: Kei Shimada & Jim Vafeas (Bergen Room) 9:00am - Noon While serious hazardous marine life injuries are rare, most divers experience minor discomfort from accidental contact with fire coral, jellyfish and other marine creatures at some point in their dive careers. Knowing how to minimize these injuries helps you reduce diver discomfort and pain. The First Aid for Hazardous Marine Life Injuries program is designed to provide knowledge regarding specific types of marine creature injuries and the general first aid treatment for those injuries. A workshop aimed at those who want to get more out of their u/w photography and complements the speakers’ other workshop, “Underwater Photography Made Simple”. Light is the image and this workshop is designed to help you work with light. In an accessible way, Michel & Danielle share their knowledge and experience to help you bring your photography to the next level, taking it beyond the snapshot world. Others may follow along on a large screen. A collection of underwater clips will be distributed and you will be walked through the steps required to produce a professional looking video. W18 Evaluating and Critiquing Images: Larry & Denise Tackett (Passaic Room) 1:00 – 4:00pm What makes a good image? Join us to learn about image composition and aesthetics by looking at and discussing a variety of image samples from printed and online media. Then we will spend time evaluating and critiquing your images as a group. Bring at least ten images as either prints or digital media.
