Ben Wombwell makes his Auckland debut in the role of Bobby, having recently returned from living in London, where he also trained with Musical Theatre at The Associated Studios. “Bobby is a phenomenal role and a privilege to play in the world of musical theatre. I’m respectful of the challenge and excited about the opportunity to bring the character A MUSICAL COMEDY to life. “I’d describe the show itself as an intimate musical where the audience is taken on a journey discovering Bobby’s mindset, while meeting his good and crazy married friends, who are all wonderfully unique and diverse characters, through seemingly ‘slice of life’ moments – dinners, outings and at a wedding.” For Ben, a musical highlight of the show is singing the iconic ‘Being Alive’ which comes at a point in the show where Bobby can consider his musings on life and love. “If you’re a Sondheim fan, you’ll know there’s always humour and emotional con- nection in the songs in his shows. ‘Being Alive’ is the emotional connection for me, and it’s a song I’ve performed in concert many times. It’s a real privilege to be able to sing it in its proper place in the show,” Ben said. The production is being led by Grant Meese, one of New Zealand’s finest musical theatre directors, who first directed the show in 2003. “It’s been 16 years since I last directed Company and it is as relevant today as it was then. Proof of that is the recent West End revival which topped the list of the 2019 Olivier Award nominations with nine nominations including Best Musical Revival.” The season runs from Saturday 27 July, and there are strictly 10 shows only. Tickets can be pur- chased from iticket. Tickets are on sale at www.itick- et.co.nz or call 09 361 1000. Show Dates 27 July – 10 August.
