While the overall plot of the film is interesting, about an hour was spent just hashing out Alita taking in her new body and world. It didn’t leave much time for the end, which felt extremely abrupt and, of course, left us on a cliffhanger. I think that once Alita finds out who she is and the mission she’s had since her creation, it becomes overshadowed by her infatuation of Hugo—she’s in love, we get it. When I first saw the trailers for this movie I was extremely skeptical because of its animation and Alita’s ginormous eyeballs, but it really took me back to A.I. Artificial Intelligence. Similar to that film is the cliché sentiment of “Can a human love a robot?” and vice versa. The storylines within Alita, June (voiced by Brianna Denski), who lost her mother and her imagination, discovers an amusement park she invented and there are a few, aren’t revolutionary, but I’m here for the BELIEVE: 805.937.8976 in-your-face action scenes, which are spectacular. as a little girl and realizes it’s in danger of being destroyed, in the animated family adventure, Wonder Park. For decades, Americans have been trained by I commercials and mass marketing to believe that the best vegetables are the ones that look like they walked off a Chanel runway—marked by bright exaggerated colors, flawless skin, and a shape most bikini models would envy. But we know that’s all b.s. (pardon my French). Vegetables don’t come out of the ground looking camera ready. They’re often dirty and gnarled, yet ultimately wholly and beautifully imperfect. Take the celery root for example. Here’s a weird and funky looking vegetable that holds so many great culinary treasures yet doesn’t get nearly as much spotlight as some of its prettier cohorts like rainbow carrots or turnips. So what the hell exactly is a celery root, also known as celeriac? (Is it celery? Why are we eating its root?) For some of those questions, I turned to Matt Hiltner, marketing coordinator for Babé Farms in Santa Maria.
