During the programme important facts about Indian Constitution and the architect of Indian Constitution Dr. B.R.Ambedhkar were explained to the students. At the end of the programme floral tributes were offered to Dr. B.R. Ambedhkar. At SKPP HP, At SKPP HP, At HC & RI, At HC & RI, Ramachandrapuram Madakasira Anantharajupeta VRGudem 1 Kisan Sammelan Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Pandirimamidi conducted Kisan Sammelan on 21-11-2015 at Pandirimamidi to create awareness to tribal people on advanced technologies in agriculture, horticulture and allied sectors and also to dis- seminate the technologies in crop production and protec- tion. Smt. Kothapalli Geetha garu, Member of Parliament, Araku, Smt. T.Ratna Bai garu, Memmber of Legislative Council, Smt. Vantala Rajeshwari garu, Member of Legislative Assembly, Rampachodavaram, Dr.B.M.C.Reddy, Vice-chancellor, Dr.YSRHU, Sri.K.V.N. Chakradara Babu, IAS, Project Officer, ITDA – Rampachodavaram, Dr.R.V.S.K. Reddy, Director of Extension, Dr.YSRHU, line department officials, public representatives and tribal farmers from agency mandals of East Godavari district participated in this pro- gramme. Chief guest of this programme, Smt. Kothapalli Geetha garu, MP inaugurated the Exhibition stalls and also distributed sprayers to the tribal farmers. Scientists and line department officers clarified the doubts of the farmers during interactive session. Education Rythu sadassu Rythu Sadassu was organised by RAWEP students of HC&RI, V.R.Gudem at Horticultural Research Station, Ambajipeta on 24.11.2015. Dr M.L.N Reddy, Dean of Horticulture, Dr.J.Dilip Babu, Director of Research, Dr A.Sujatha, Associate Dean, HC&RI, V.R.Gudem and B.V.K.Bhagavan, Zonal Head (Coastal zone-I) attended the programme. Rythu sadassus were organised by RAWEP students allotted to HRS, Kovvur at Pasivedala and Kalavalapalli villages on 30.11.2015. Dr M.L.N.Reddy, Dean of Horticul- ture, Dr A Sujatha, Associate Dean, HC&RI, V.R.Gudem, Dr BVK,Bhagavan, Principal Scientist(Hort.)& Head, HRS, Kovvur, Smt K.Usha Kumari, Asst Professor and In-charge of RAWEP, HC&RI, V.R.Gudem Smt. R.Nagalakshmi, Scientist (Hort), HRS, Kovvur, Ms T. Sowmya, RA (Pl.Pathology) and Sri M.Tirupal RA (Hort.) attended these programmes. Volume-I, Issue –13 Dr.YSRHU e-Newsletter 15th — 30th November, 2015 2 Swachh bharat Swachh bharat programme was conducted on 28-11-2015 in the college campus at SKPP Horticultural Polytechnic, Ramachandrapuram. Students and staff of the college participated in this programme and cleaned the premises of college and hostels. Clean and green Under ‘Clean and green’ campaign traffic islands and road divider of Main road, Koduru town were cleaned by NSS volunteers of Hor- ticultural College and Research Institute, Anantharajupeta from 26 -11-2015 to 28-11-2015. Dr.K.Gopal, Associate Dean along with NSS programme officers Dr.M.Ramaiah and Smt. G. Thanuja Siva- ram and faculty members participated in this programme. RAWEP Activities Dr.B.Govinda Rajulu, Principal Scientist(PP) & Head, CRS, Petlur along with RAWEP students of HC&RI, Anantharajupet allotted to CRS, Petlur visited acid lime orchards at Balayapalli, Gudur and Dakkili mandals of Nellore district on 26-11-2015 and suggested suitable remedial measures for various problems in the orchards affected by heavy rains. Sri. D. Sreedhar, Scientist (Hort.) and Smt. T. Nagalakshmi, Scien- tist(Pl.Pathology) conducted a hands on training to RAWEP stu- dents of B.Sc(Hons) Horticulture students of HC& RI, Anantharaju- pet. on raising of papaya nursery Exposure visits Dr D.V.Swamy, Associate Professor (Hort.), HC&RI, Venkatara- mannagudem arranged an exposure visit to second year stu- dents to show the tapping in rubber at Horticultural Research Station, Pandirimamidi. Dr.N. Emmanuel, Assistant Professor (Entomology) arranged an exposure visit to third year students to Khandavalli village, West Godavari district, Andhra Pradesh to show symptoms of various pest damage in vegetables and coconut along with a visit to Parasite Breeding Station at Hor- ticultural Research Station, Ambajipeta. Volume-I, Issue –13 Dr.YSRHU e-Newsletter 15th — 30th November, 2015 3 Research Dr.YSRHU Foods The activity of preparation of different products at Post Harvest Technology Research Station, th Venkataramannagudem started from 15 November, 2015. Products like tomato ketchup, mango pickle and mixed fruit jam prepared at PHTRS, Venkataramannagudem will be marketed under the brand ‘Dr.YSRHU Foods’. Exposure visit One day training cum exposure visit was organized for Farmers & Traders of East Godavari district on 17-11-2015 by Department of Horticulture. During their visit Dr. B.Prasanna Kumar, PS (Hort.) accompanied by Sri.K Gopi Kumar, ADH, Kakinada explained about functioning of Integrated Pack House Unit, ripening chamber and prepara- tion of dried products like aamchur using Ezidry equipment at PHTRS, V.R.Gudem. Tribal sub-plan Dr B.V.K. Bhagavn, Principal Scientist(Hort) &Head, HRS, Kovvur visited Talla Kattupalli, Kapava- ram and Regulakunta villages of Buttayagudem mandal, West Godavari district to identify tribal farmers for implementation of Tribal Sub plan under AICRP on Fruits on 26-11-2015. Extension Kisan mela An exhibition stall was arranged by KVK, V.R.Gudem at Kisan Mela organized by KVK, Undi by displaying vari- ous exhibits pertaining to Horticulture, Agriculture, Fisheries, Livestock and Home Science technologies on 16th November, 2015. Sri G. Gangaraju, MP, Narasapu- ram,Sri Pydikondala Manikyala Rao, Hon’ble Minister for Endowments, Government of AP, Sri V.V. Sivarama Raju, MLA, Undi and Dr.A.K.Singh, Deputy Director General (Agricultural Extension), ICAR accompanied by Volume-I, Issue –13 Dr.YSRHU e-Newsletter 15th — 30th November, 2015 4 Dr.B.M.C.Reddy, Vice-chancellor, Dr.R.V.S.K Reddy, Director of Extension and Dr.E.Karuna Sree, PC, KVK, V.R.Gudem visited the Exhibition stall and enquired about the farmer friendly technolo- gies. Field visit and training programme Farmers from East Godavari visited KVK, V.R.Gudem and University campus to learn about improved practices in post harvest management and processing of Mango on 17th Novem- ber,2015. During this visit Dr.B.Prasanna Kumar, Principle Scientist(Hort.) and Dr.M.Rajeskhar, Senior Scientist(Hort.) delivered lectures on mango cultivation and post harvest man- agement. The second and final year B.Sc Home Science students of St.Teresa Degree College, Eluru visited KVK, V.R.Gudem on 27-11-2015 to learn about the processing and value addition of millets, fruits and vegetables. Field days Field days were conducted at Pedduru and Kotha- gudem villages of Devipatnam mandal to disseminate improved technologies in sorghum in the agency areas. Sri. K.V.V. Chakradhara Babu, IAS, Project Officer – ITDA, Rampachodavaram participated as chief guest and visited the Sorghum fields, interacted with the tribal farmers and taken feedback regarding sorghum cultivation. Dr.A.Srinivas, Programme Coor- dinator, KVK, Pandirimamidi explained the KVK activities in the agency area to support the tribal farmers. Sri. M.Mallikarjun Rao, ADA, Rampachodavarm, Sri V.Govardhan Rao, SMS(Pl. Pathology), KVK, Pandirimamidi conducted technical session. Sri. D.Murali Krishna, DPD-ATMA, Kakinada, Dr.N.Narashimha Murthy, Senior Scientist &Head, HRS, Pandirimamidi, representatives of NGO Pragathi, Dr.K.Ravikumar, SMA (Hort.), Sri P.V.Ramana, SMA (SSAC), KVK, Pandirimamidi and tribal farmers participated in the field day. Filed visits to Rovan cyclone affected areas Group of Scientists consisting of Dr. L. Mukundalakshmi, Scien- tist (Hort.) and Dr. M. Kavitha, Scientist (Pl. Pathology)(Team-1) Smt. G. Sarada, Scientist (Entomology), Dr.T. Rajasekharam, Scientist (Pl.Pathology), Sri.D. Sreedhar, Scientist (Hort.) (Team- 2) along with Department of Horticulture officials formed into Volume-I, Issue –13 Dr.YSRHU e-Newsletter 15th — 30th November, 2015 5 two teams and visited cyclone affected mandals viz., Byreddipalli, Valmikipuram, Putturu, KVB Puram,V. Kota, Ramakuppam, Punganur, Ramasamudram, Kalikiri, Kalakada, Gurramkonda and Satyavedu mandals of Chittoor district on 20th and 21st November, 2015. It was observed that in tomato and potato most of the fields were infected with blight, fruit rot and tuber rot diseases. In brinjal and cabbage fruit rot and head rot were noticed. It was also observed that in tomato most of the fields were infected with wilt, blight and fruit rot diseases. Papaya was severely infected with viral diseases, fruit rot, anthracnose, foot rot and powdery mildew diseases. Chrysanthemum and tube rose were infected with flower rot, tuber rot diseases and com- pletely unsuitable for marketing. Bitter gourd and ridge gourd were infected with fruit rot and leaf spot diseases. Water logging was noticed in most of the orchards. Suitable remedial measures were suggested to the framers to save the standing crop. Dr. C. Madhumathi, Sr. Scientist (Hort.)& Head, Sri. D. Sreedhar, Scientist (Hort.), Dr. D. Naga Lakshmi, Scientist (Pl.Pathology), Horticultural Research Station, Ananthrajupeta along with officials of Department of Horticulture visited areas affected by Rovan cyclone on 18th, 24 and 25th, November, 2015 to assess the damage and to suggest suitable remedial measures Volume-I, Issue –13 Dr.YSRHU e-Newsletter 1st –15th November, 2015 6 Diagnostic visits Dr. M. Raja Naik, Asst. Professor (Hort.), Dr. M. Ramaiah, Asst. Profes- sor (Entomology), Horticultural College & Research Institute, Anan- tharajupeta visited papaya and banana fields in Pitlavaripalli, Rly.Kodur mandal on 27-11-2015 and noticed nutrient disorders, mosaic virus and foot rot disease in papaya cv, Red Lady. Also observed lacunae in planting method, nutrient management and symptoms of sigatoka leaf spot in banana cv.
