Wei LIU, MD, PhD. Dr. Liu graduated from Shanghai Second Medical University in 1983 with a MD degree and graduated from University of Arkansas for Medical Science in 1998 with a PhD degree followed by two year postdoctoral training at New York University. He has been a plastic surgeon since 1983 and now is a full time researcher after his return to China in 2000. Currently, he is a Professor of Plastic Surgery of Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, and Associate Directors of Shanghai Institute of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and Associate Director of National Tissue Engineering Center of China. Dr. Liu is the principle investigator of four national key projects of tissue engineering research sponsored by Chinese Ministry of Science and Technology. He is a standing committee member of Chinese Society of Biomaterials and Chinese Society of Tissue Engineering. Dr. Liu is the authors of more than 100 original articles published in international journals, the contributor of several international tissue engineering text books including “Principle of Tissue Engineering” edited by Langer, Lanza and Vacanti, “Biomaterials and Regenerative Medicine” edited by Peter Ma, “Tissue Engineering for the Hand” edited by James Chang, “Tendon Regeneration” edited by Rei Ruis et al, “Plastic Surgery 3rd Edition” edited by Peter Nelegan, and “Comprehensive Biotechnology” edited by Murray Moo-Young. Dr. Liu is an editorial member of Biomaterials, Journal of Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine, Biomedical Materials, Editor of Emerging Issue and Clinical Council Member of Tissue Engineering (journal). He has presented more than 30 invited speeches at various international conferences, including TERMIS-AP and TERMIS-EU chapter meeting and TERMIS-World Congress. Dr. Liu has involved in TERMIS society for many years. He served as Council Member of TERMIS-AP and Member at-large Asia-Pacific. Dr. Liu was appointed as the leader of TERMIS President’s Committee by Steven Badylack and David William in 2010 and led the group to finally establish the TERMI-AP by-law. Dr. Liu was the Scientific Chair of 8th TESI Annual meeting in 2005 in Shanghai and the Scientific Chair of 2013 TERMIS-AP meeting in Wuzhen/Shanghai. In addition to TERMIS society, he is also the Member of International Union of Societies of Biomaterials Science and Engineering (IUSBSE).
