2001 Bob Jewett
Bob Jewett Combinations and Throw Some surprising insights into the world of "throw." In my column last April, I covered some of the details of throw. Here are two related and surprising experiments for you to try. As a reminder, a ball is said to be "thrown" when its path is not directly away from the spot where another ball contacts it. This deviation can be due to spin on the cue ball, or simply from the motion of the striking ball across the struck ball on a cut shot. Most beginners will shoot the shot in Diagram 1 wrong. The two object balls are frozen together and pointed about six inches away from the pocket. A novice will attempt to "cut" the second ball by playing to side A of the balls, perhaps expecting the first ball to move to the right before pushing the second ball towards the pocket. Of course, we all know that you have to hit the shot on side B, and let the friction between the balls drag the second ball towards the pocket. But how does the shot change if the balls aren't touching? With some separation, as in Diagram 2, there will be two effects, the throw from the sur- face friction, and the cut because the first ball does move to the side before it hits the second ball. Which effect will dominate? If the balls are separated by a hair's breadth, the shot hasn't changed much and you would expect nearly the same result as for frozen balls. -

In 1998, when Corr moved to United States and traded snooker for American 9-ball she attacked the Women’s Professional Billiard Association Classic Tour with precision shooting and unbreakable concentration. Corr’s quick rise to the top and her consistent dominance on American soil has earned her the only spot in this year’s BCA Hall of Fame class. The Northern Ireland born Corr, 42, will be formally inducted into Greatest Player wing of the BCA Hall of Fame on October 26, 2012 during ceremonies at the Holiday Inn in Virginia Beach, VA. Shortly after winning her fourth world snooker title in 1997, Corr moved to the U.S., switched her game to 9-ball and raced through one WPBA qualifier after another in pursuit of a Classic Tour touring card. After just six months, Corr was ranked 24th in the WPBA, rising to No. 4 in 1999. She captured her first Classic Tour title in 2000, the Cuetec Cues Players Championship. She added two more tour titles in 2000, and then rose to the No. 1 ranking in 2001 with an amazing six titles. In the same year, she also was named Player of the Year (POY) by Pool & Billiard Magazine and Billiards Digest, breaking Allison Fisher’s string of five consecutive POY honors. -
Press Release
EPBF Press Officer Clercst. 2 Mobile: +49 (0) 151 23 555 139 6441 CT Brunssum Email: [email protected] Netherlands Press Release Drago defeats Peach Dynamic German Open down to 32 players Friday, 26 August 2011: In an exciting matchup, Tony Drago (MLT) defeated Daryl Peach (GBR) with 8:6. The complete match was determined by many mistakes from both players. Peach had the better start, gaining a quick 3:0 lead over Drago who tried for a long time to keep pace with Peach. The advantage of Peach was two racks minimum during the whole time of the match. At a score of 6:3, Peach had the chance to get on the hill "The Tornado" Tony Drago (MLT) but he missed a relatively easy 5-ball. Drago thanked for the invitation Foto: EPBF/AMM and ran the balls, making the score 4:6. That was one of two major mistakes from Peach. The second one he committed when he was leading 6:5. He then missed an easy 8-ball and went back to his table completely frustrated. Drago again benefitted from his mistake and tied the match at 6:6. In the 13th rack, both players were very careful and preferred to play safety shots. It was Tony Drago who won the safety battle and started pocketing balls. But he unexpectedly missed the 3-ball. However, the balls on the table were not in favour of Peach. He scratched with the cue ball when he tried to play a safety shot on the 7-ball.
